Easy Recipes for Kids - Frozen Banana Yoghurt Bites

These banana frozen yoghurt bites are a really easy recipe for kids and make a great healthy dessert, snack or fun breakfast idea!

Following on from the hugely popular frozen fruity yoghurt bites recipe from my easy recipes for kids series, today I'm sharing a new version of the recipe with a yummy banana twist - frozen banana yoghurt bites.

Be sure to check out my recipe video so you can see just how easy these are to make!

This version of the recipe has been a massive hit with Small Child - it's a little sweeter than the original, with one of his favourite fruits, and it's still extremely simple to make with just three healthy ingredients - check out my video to see just how easy it is!

As with the original recipe, I used reusable silicone muffin cups for this project as they are sturdy and eco friendly, but you could also use paper cupcake cases if you have some you’d like to use up.

Why not experiment with different shaped silicone cups if you have them – flowers shapes for spring, star shapes for Christmas or heart shapes for Valentines day would work nicely.

    Banana Frozen Yoghurt Bites

    Ingredients

    • 1 large ripe banana
    •  150g Yoghurt of your choice (we used natural yoghurt)
    •  Handful of dried banana chips (optional)

    Method

Lay out approximately 12 cupcake cases or silicone muffin cups on a small baking sheet or tray (this will need to fit in your freezer, so it may be worth checking it for size before you start).

Peel the banana and pop it onto a plate.  Mash up with a fork until most of the lumps have gone.  Tip: Young children might find this step easier to do with a potato masher if you have one.

Tip the mashed banana into a bowl and dollop in the yoghurt.  Whisk together until well combined.

Using a spoon, dollop some yoghurt and banana mixture into the bottom of each cake case until all the yoghurt has gone.

Top with the banana chips if wanted.  We topped half  of ours with whole ones and half with broken pieces, I think both ways looked great!

Place the cups (still on the baking tray) into the freezer and leave to freeze for a couple of hours until set solid.

Once frozen through, remove from the cases and serve (or bag up and pop straight back in the freezer to eat later).

These are great to munch on straight out of the freezer as a healthy snack or dessert, or for a fun breakfast idea you could throw a few into a bowl of granola or cereal, yum!

You could even pack these in a lunch box – the yoghurt will melt enough to eat with a spoon by lunch time but it will still be lovely and cool and make a tasty and healthy dessert.  Just be sure to pack them in a leak-proof tub or compartmented lunch box like the Yumbox.

Thanks for the recipe-they were yummy! I think next time we'll try making them in an ice lolly mould as our only negative thing was they were too cold for little hands to hold....

Do you think these would work with muffin liners? I don’t have silicone cups and we don’t use the non-stick directly for health reasons. Thanks!

Hi Jennifer, they do work but can be a little hard to remove from the paper muffin liners. Hope that helps!

I am from the US. I tried to look up how to covert 150 grams in to cups. and could not find it.
Do you happen to know how much 150 gram of yogurt into US cups (either 3/4 cup or 1/2cup or 1/3 cup or 14 cup)
I would love to make this recipe.
      many thanks

Hi Sheri, thank you for commenting, 150g of yogurt is roughly 2/3 of a cup, this recipe is very flexible though so if you are a little under or over it's not a problem. I hope that helps! Grace
