Healthy Halloween Freakshakes Recipe

Today I'm sharing a fun video tutorial and recipe for healthy Halloween Freakshakes.

These decadent spooky treats certainly look the business, but (whipped cream aside), they're actually stuffed with good healthy ingredients, so you can enjoy them guilt free whilst getting a goodly chunk of your 5 a day at the same time!

Cute and easy Healthy Halloween Freakshake recipe with Spooky Fruit Toppers - fun food for kids from Eats Amazing UK

Ever since I first saw them (probably on Instagram!), I've been dying to have a go at making a freakshake! The topping possibilities seem endless, the perfect vehicle for fun food, however the ones I've seen have invariably been a horrendous sugar fest, dripping with donuts, cookies and mountains of sprinkles.

Although I'm a great believer in 'everything in moderation', there's nothing moderate about freakshakes, so I decided to try my hand at my own, healthier version for the kids.

Be sure to check out my recipe video so you can see just how easy these are to make!

These healthy freakshakes went down a storm with my boys, who were really excited to try them and thoroughly enjoyed every last bit! They loved the fun spooky fruits; clementine pumpkins, banana ghosts and grape magic wands and they were all gone in the blink of an eye.

I'll definitely be making healthy freakshakes like this again, especially when their fruit consumption needs a bit of a boost!

Healthy Halloween Freakshakes

Ingredients (serves 2):

For the milkshake:

  • 200g frozen raspberries
  • 1 banana
  • 100g thick Greek yogurt
  • 300ml milk
  • honey to taste (optional)

To decorate:

  • 150ml whipping cream
  • 2 clementines
  • 1 chocolate matchmakers stick
  • 1 banana
  • 6 dark chocolate chips
  • 10-12 black grapes
  • 6 bamboo skewers
  • drinking straws

Method:

Start by making the spooky fruit decorations:

Clementine Pumpkins: Peel the clementines and discard the skin. Break off two pieces of matchmaker chocolate and push a piece into the middle of each clementine for the pumpkin stalk.

Ghostly Bananas: Peel the banana and discard the skin. Cut the banana into two pieces. Push 3 chocolate chips into each banana to form a ghostly face (eyes and mouth) at the rounded end of each banana half.

Magic Wand: Thread 5 or 6 black grapes onto a bamboo skewer, leaving the bottom ⅓ of the skewer clear. Repeat with a second skewer to make two fruit wands.

Make the milkshake:

Place all of the milkshake ingredients (raspberries, banana, Greek yogurt, milk and honey to taste) into a food processor. Whizz together on a fast setting until fully blended and smooth.

Pour the cream into a bowl and whip until stiff. Spoon into a disposable piping bag with a large star icing tip.

Assemble the freakshakes:

Pour the milkshake mixture into two glasses or jars, then top each with a generous swirl of whipped cream.

Decorate with the spooky fruit, pushing bamboo skewers into the bottom of the pumpkins and ghosts first to help hold them in place.

Finish with a couple of drinking straws and serve immediately.

Enjoy!
