Today I have a fun Halloween drink recipe to share with you - a really easy homemade ghostly banana milkshake! This spooky milkshake was a massive hit with my boys, who have been asking me to make them another one every day this week!

This tasty banana milkshake recipe is really easy and quick to put together. There's a little preparation needed, as ideally the banana needs to be frozen (although this isn't completely necessary - see notes below), but it takes just a minute to throw it together. As well as fresh bananas, I included oats in the recipe too, they add an extra healthy boost, make the milkshake lovely and thick and also help to keep little tummies feeling full and satisfied.

The best thing about this milkshake is that you know exactly what is going into it so there are no artificial flavours, colours or refined sugar. In my opinion, a homemade milkshake tastes miles better than ready-made ones too, as they tend to be seriously over sweet. A fun 'Boo'nana milkshake is a great way to celebrate a healthier Halloween!

    Spooky Banana Milkshake

    Ingredients (serves 1):

    • 1 banana
    • 200ml milk
    • 50g Greek yogurt
    • 20g oats
    • honey to taste (optional)

    To decorate:

    • glass bottle or glass
    • googly eyes
    • glue stick
    • marker pen

    Method:

First prepare the banana - peel and slice it into rounds, then lay them out on lined baking tray and freeze for a couple of hours or overnight*.

Before making your milkshake, prepare the bottle or glass that you are serving it in by gluing on a couple of googly eyes and drawing on a mouth with marker pen. I had intended to use a black marker but couldn't find it (always worrying with a small child in the house!).

To make the milkshake, add the milk, Greek yogurt and oats to a blender. Remove the banana from the freezer and add them to the blender too.

Whizz together until completely smooth, then taste and add a little honey to sweeten if needed.

Pour into the prepared bottle or glass, add a straw if wanted and serve immediately.

*NOTE: If you're short on time you can skip freezing the banana, but the milkshake won't be quite as thick or cold.
