Today I’m sharing two blog posts with you – a super cute (and totally delicious!) Noddy themed vanilla cupcakes recipe and this post, in which I’ll show you how to make the fondant Noddy themed cupcake toppers that you'll need to decorate the cupcakes.
These cute Noddy fondant toppers are really easy to make yourself and you don’t need any special cake decorating equipment for them either, always a bonus!
As I've mentioned in the Noddy cupcakes recipe post, I was challenged to come up with this fun and creative Noddy inspired project by The Book People, who are celebrating the 120th Anniversary of the birth of Enid Blyton by encouraging us all to get crafty with the #NoddyChallenge!
The #NoddyChallenge is all about inspiring parents and children to create together, making a range of art, food and craft projects inspired by Noddy and his friends. You can read more about it and find out how to join in yourself at the end of this post.
I’ve created a quick tutorial video to show you just how easy these fondant toppers are to make and to help you recreate them at home - you’ll also find the full written instructions and step by step photos for all four Noddy inspired designs below the video.

Fondant Icing Noddy Cupcake Toppers
Ingredients & Equipment:
- red, yellow, green and blue fondant icing
- white sugar pearl sprinkles
- Mini Matchmakers chocolates
- cocktail sticks
- rolling pin
- round cookie cutter
- mini circle cutter (or use the wide end of an icing piping tip)
Fondant Toadstool or Mushroom
- Roll out two balls of fondant icing – one larger red, one smaller white.
- Roll the white ball into a fat cylinder shape for the stem of the toadstool.
- With your fingers, flatten the red ball and shape into a toadstool top.
- Firmly press white sugar pearls all over the toadstool top to decorate.
- Stand the white stem of the toadstool upright and dab a little water on top. Push the red top onto the stem and gently press together to form a finished toadstool.
Pipe a swirl of green buttercream icing onto the top of a cupcake and push in the toadstool to decorate.
Fondant Toyland Trees
- Roll out two balls of green fondant icing of a similar size.
- Push a Mini Matchmaker Chocolate into one of the balls to form a round tree.
- With your fingers, roll the second ball into a cone shape.
- Push a Mini Matshmaker into the base of the cone to form a second tree.
Pipe a swirl of green buttercream icing onto a cupcake. Carefully push a small wooden cocktail stick into each fontant tree - the cocktail stick should rest against the back (flat side) of the Matchmaker trunks. Push the other end of the cocktail stick into the cake to attach the trees and keep them standing upright. Be sure to warn people that the sticks are there before serving these cakes!
Fondant Noddy's Hat
- Roll out two balls of fondant icing – one larger blue, one small yellow.
- With your fingers, roll the blue ball into a tall cone to form the hat.
- Dab a little water onto the end of the cone.
- Push the yellow ball onto the end of the blue cone for the bell.
- Bend the end of the cone over to make a hat shape.
Pipe a swirl of green or white buttercream icing onto the top of a cupcake and push in the hat to decorate.
Polka Dot Fondant Topper
- Roll a piece of yellow fondant out to around the thickness of a £1 coin.
- Using a round cookie cutter the same size as the top of your cupcakes, cut out a circle for the base of the topper.
- Roll out a smaller and thinner piece of red fondant.
- Using a small circle cutter of the base of an icing piping tip, cut out small circles for the polka dots.
- Gently press the small red dots into the yellow circle to form a polka dot pattern.
- If some of the dots need to overlap the edge of the circle, add 'dots' of icing which overhang the edge of the circle then trim off the excess at the end with the original circle cutter.
Pipe a small flat swirl of white buttercream icing onto the top of the cake then cover with the polka-dot fondant topper, pressing gently around the edges to mould it to the top of the cake.
Mini Toadstool Cakes
An extra bonus idea - if you baked some mini cupcakes or want to decorate any leftover cupcakes, quickly turn them into toadstools with leftover fondant icing!
- Roll out a piece of red fondant, slightly thinner than a £1 coin.
- Using a round cookie cutter the same size as the top of your mini cupcakes, cut out a circle for each cupcake.
- Pipe a small blob of white buttercream icing onto the top of each mini cupcake then top with a red fondant circle.
- Carefully push white sugar pearls into the red fondant to decorate.
