    Nutcracker Themed Food: Strawberry Mice

Today I'm sharing the second fun Nutcracker themed food idea in our mini series, some cute and easy strawberry mice (or rats, depending on which version of the Nutcracker story you know!). These mice are easy to make, with minimal equipment, and would be a perfect healthy treat for a Nutcracker themed party. Earlier this week I also shared some lovely banana ballerinas, and I've got lots more Nutcracker themed food ideas to share with you over the next week, so watch this space for those!

Megham from Playground Park Bench, who I'm collaborating with on this project, has shared a gorgeous nutcracker game idea for her second post, featuring the rat king and his soldiers - the perfect game to go with these yummy strawberry mice!

    Strawberry Mice

    Ingredients:

    • strawberries
    • strawberry laces (sweets)
    • chocolate chips
    • pine nuts
    • chocolate butons
    • slice cheddar cheese

    Method:

Start by hulling the strawberries by sticking a plastic drinking straw through from bottom to top (see the video below for how to do this).

Take a slice off one side the the strawberry so it can stand without rolling around.

Cut a piece off a strawberry lace for the tail, and pop it into the hole left by the straw. Pop a chocolate chip into the other end for a nose.

Push two pine nuts into the strawberry, pointy side down to form the eyes, then add two chocolate buttons for the ears. Repeat until you have as many mice as you need.

Serve up on a platter or plate along with small triangles of cheddar cheese (I cut little holes in mine with mini bento cutters).

I've made a video tutorial to show you how to make these strawberry mice which you'll find below - click here to watch it on YouTube if you can't see it for any reason, and don't forget to subscribe to the Eats Amazing YouTube channel while you're there, for lots more fun food ideas and tutorials!

If you enjoyed this post, do come back to follow the rest of our nutcracker series – we’ll be posting a new idea every few days until December 16th. You can find all of our posts to date over on Meghans Plan the Perfect Nutcracker Party page, and I’ll be putting together a nice round-up of our nutcracker ideas when the series is complete too, I can’t wait to get working on the next fun nutcracker themed food idea!
