In honour of my partnership with DisneyLife – the service that gives you Disney movies, TV, books and music, it's 'Disney Week' here on the Eats Amazing blog!
Today, on day 3, I'm sharing my fun Disney Pixar Cars themed picnic recipes. If you have a Cars fan in the house, (big or small!) they'll love these fun Disney Pixar Cars inspired picnic recipes, from bagel wheels to cheese traffic cones, edible vegetable cars to traffic light fruit kebabs, and not forgetting the yummy spare tyre crispy cakes for a finishing treat!
This week DisneyLife revealed the top 20 family picnic spots in Britain (as voted for in a national poll of parents), with Three Cliffs Bay in Gower, Wales in the winning spot and Padley Gorge in Derbyshire coming in a very close second. Nearly all of the parents surveyed (98%) agreed that a family picnic in a beautiful location is one of the best things to do in the summer holidays, and I'm fully with them on that!
If you can't get out into the countryside, there are plenty of fun picnic spots in urban locations too, and bringing along a Cars themed picnic would make an urban location even more fun!
Back to today’s fun Disney picnic, I’m sharing all the recipes you need for an extra special Cars themed picnic below:
Disney Pixar Cars Themed Picnic Recipes
Bagel Wheels
Ingredients:
- 4 wholemeal bagels
- Light mayo
- 4 slices lean ham
Method:
Split the bagels, spread each with a little light mayo and fill with one slice of lean ham each.
To serve, pile the bagel ‘wheels’ into a tyre stack and hold together with a long skewer topped with a chequered flag.
Cheese Traffic Cones
Ingredients:
- 100g red Leicester cheese
- 70g cheddar cheese
Method:
Cut the cheese into thick slices.
Using three different sizes of mini circle cutters, cut circles from the red Leicester cheese using the largest and the smallest cutters.
Cut circles from the cheddar cheese using the middle sized cutter.
Stack the cheese circles into cones, with the red Leicester cheese on the top and bottom and the cheddar cheese in the middle.
Pop a small chequered cocktail flag into the top of each cone to hold them together.
Car Crudites
Check out the recipe here: Vegetable Cars
Notes: I added googly eye picks to my usual vegetable cars recipe to make them more Disney-like. You can serve them with or without the eyes!
To pack up for your picnic, slice the cucumbers as above then pack each component separately and assemble before serving. Be sure to warn your guests to remove the cocktail sticks before eating!
Traffic-light Fruit Kebabs
Ingredients:
- ½ Canteloupe (orange fleshed) melon
- ½ small watermelon
- ½ honeydew (green fleshed) melon
Method:
Scoop any seeds from the centre of the melons with a spoon and discard.
Using a melon baller, cut spheres from each melon and pop into bowls until ready to use.
Thread three melon balls onto each skewer, one of each colour, arranged in traffic light order.
Repeat until you have used up all of the melon balls, then pack the traffic light kebabs into a lunch box ready for your picnic.
Spare Tyre Crispy Cakes
Ingredients:
- 60g Dark chocolate
- 40g Multigrain hoops cereal
To decorate:
- Red paper muffin cases
- Chequered cocktail flags
Method:
Line a muffin tin with 4 red paper muffin cases.
Break the dark chocolate into pieces and place in a large microwave safe bowl.
Melt the chocolate in the microwave in 30 second bursts, stirring between each one to ensure it melts evenly. Be careful not to overheat or burn the chocolate, heat only until just melted and smooth.
Gently stir the cereal hoops into the chocolate until it is fully coated, then spoon the mixture into the muffin cases.
Push a flag into the top of each crispy cake, then pop the muffin tin into the fridge until the cakes are set solid.
