These gorgeous melon fruit kebabs make a great healthy snack and easy party food idea for kids!
Looking for easy summer party food ideas? These simple melon fruit kebabs could be just what you're looking for - easy and healthy, they make the perfect refreshing summer snack. Made from only fruit skewered on sticks, they're a great allergy friendly treat to bring to a party too!
The summer holidays are just around the corner and because of the amazing weather we've been having recently, I already feel like we're in holiday mode! The evenings are warm and light, we're losing track of time so the boys keep accidentally staying up later and we're thoroughly enjoying the sunshine.
Because of the heat we've been keeping our meals light and relaxed so we're all nibbling our way through extra snacks, especially fruit! Melon is particularly popular in our house at the moment and these melon fruit kebabs make the perfect healthy snack idea for summer.
As well as tasting delicious, they look really pretty too, and if you want a mini project to keep the kids occupied in the summer holidays, why not let them make them all by themselves? They'll have loads of fun using the melon baller and cutting out the shapes, then threading them all together in whatever patterns their imaginations can come up with.
They're fab to bring to a party or barbecue too, these sweet and juicy fruit kebabs are sure to be a hit with everyone. Best of all, they're great for helping keep the kids hydrated too!
Melon Fruit Kebabs
Ingredients:
- ½ cantaloupe Melon
- ½ honeydew melon
- ⅓ medium watermelon
Equipment:
Method:
Start by cutting a round slice from each melon, roughly 2cm thick.
Using mini cookie cutters or bento cutters, cut shapes from the melon slices. We cut out flowers, hearts and stars, but you can use any shapes you like.
Scoop any seeds from the remaining melon with a spoon and discard.
Using a melon baller, cut spheres from the remaining melon and pop into bowls until ready to use.
Thread the melon balls and shapes onto the skewers, alternating colours and shapes to make pretty patterns.
Place on a plate or in a storage container, cover and store in the fridge until ready to serve.
Enjoy!
Notes: If you're serving to younger children, you can cut of the pointy end off the bamboo skewers with kitchen scissors.
