Today's recipe is for deliciously simple turkey and apple burgers. These burgers are easy to make, child friendly and have just 5 easy to find ingredients! They're perfect for a family meal and can be made in advance and frozen too, so you can keep them in the freezer for a quick and easy mid-week meal with minimal effort.
Like the ham and cheese lunchbox muffins recipe I shared earlier this week, I created this recipe using only ingredients from the essential Waitrose range. This is a range of products which provide the quality you’d expect from Waitrose at prices you perhaps wouldn’t.
As I wrote in my last post, I was pleasantly surprised to find out how extensive the essential Waitrose range is (1,500 products!) and that the prices are indeed affordable – I did a full shop whilst I was there and my total shopping basket came in at a far lower price than I was expecting when I got to the checkout.
I was also pleased to read about the high welfare standards Waitrose demand for their meat, even for meat sold in the essential Waitrose range. Their turkeys are reared in Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and Southern Ireland, in light, windowed houses and airy barns with natural ventilation and straw bales. When dusk falls the turkeys get plenty of darkness, allowing them to enjoy a proper rest through the night. Temperature and humidity are constantly monitored to ensure they remain comfortable at all times.
Waitrose believe that the better they look after their birds, the tastier the meat that they eventually produce. It's so great to see a supermarket keeping standards high even for their lowest priced range!
Easy Turkey & Apple Burgers

- 1 clove garlic
- 2 eating apples
- 600g turkey breast mince
- salt & pepper to taste (optional)
- 1 Tbs olive oil
To serve:
- wholemeal baps
- lettuce leaves
- sliced cucumber
- sliced tomato
- homemade potato wedges
Method:
Prepare the ingredients; chop the spring onions, finely chop or crush the garlic, grate the apple.
Place the spring onions, garlic, grated apple and turkey breast mince in a large bowl.
Season with salt and pepper, then mix together with your hands until well combined.
Divide the mixture into 6 balls then shape into burgers with your hands or a burger press.
Place the burgers on a plate, cover and pop in the fridge for at least ½ hour.
Once ready to cook, brush each burger on both sides with olive oil.
Grill or griddle the burgers for 10-15 minutes, turning half way through cooking, until cooked through.
Serve in wholemeal baps with lettuce and cucumber and potato wedges on the side.
I used essential Waitrose potatoes for our potato wedges and they came out perfectly! You can find my really easy recipe for these here: Easy Homemade Potato Wedges Recipe.
After making these two recipes I can honestly say I'm really impressed with the essential Waitrose range. It has a really great selection and the quality is excellent, despite the very reasonable prices. I'll definitely be heading to Waitrose for my food shopping more often from now on!
Waitrose are lowering hundreds of prices across the essential Waitrose range, you can find out more and see the full range over on the Waitrose website.
