    Easy Recipes for Kids - Frozen Fruity Yoghurt Bites

    Today I'm sharing another of my easy recipes for kids, this is a really simple one for frozen fruity yoghurt bites.  With just a few ingredients and minimal equipment, this recipe couldn't be easier to make, and the yoghurt bites make a great healthy dessert, snack or even a fun breakfast idea!

    This is a lovely healthy recipe that even a toddler could make - in fact if Small Baby hadn't been having a nap at the time I would definitely have got him involved too.

    As always, this recipe can be adjusted to suit your tastes and needs - swap fresh fruit for alternatives of your choice (strawberries or blackberries would work nicely) or try dried fruits, or switch to soya yoghurt or similar if you'd like to make it dairy free.

    I used natural yoghurt as a healthy option because it has no added sugar, but you could use any yoghurt flavour of your choice.

    I believe that teaching children to cook plays a major role in helping them build good habits for healthy eating that will last a lifetime.  Cooking can help build confidence, encourage children to try new foods and of course it is a life skill that is never wasted.

    This year one of my new year's resolutions is to cook more with Small Child, and to share more child friendly recipes here on the blog, in the hope that I can encourage more families to cook together and get more children comfortable in the kitchen.

    To make this goal slightly more achievable I'll be changing the format of my 'Cooking with Small Child' posts slightly by leaving out the multiple step-by-step photos, but the step-by-step instructions and free downloadable recipe sheet for your child to try will still be available with every recipe in this series, and every recipe will be tested by my little chef Small Child himself!

    Cooking with Small Child Button

    I used reusable silicone muffin cups for this project as they are sturdy and eco friendly, but you could also use paper cupcake cases if you have some you'd like to use up. It might be fun to experiment with different shaped silicone cups if you have them - why not make them star shaped for Christmas or heart shaped for Valentines day!

    Ingredients

    • 200g Yoghurt of your choice (we used natural yoghurt)
    •  Handful of fresh raspberries
    •  Handful of fresh blueberries

    Method

    Gather together your ingredients.  Lay out approximately 12 cupcake cases or silicone muffin cups on a small baking sheet or tray (this will need to fit in your freezer, so it may be worth checking it for size before you start).

    Using a spoon, dollop some yoghurt into the bottom of each cake case until all the yoghurt has gone.

    Eats Amazing UK - Frozen Fruity Yoghurt Bites Child Friendly RecipePop a few pieces of fruit into each cup, pressing them down into the yoghurt with the tip of your finger. Small Child decided to make funny faces with his fruit, but you can put them in any way you'd like.

    Place the cups (still on the baking tray) into the freezer and leave to freeze for a couple of hours until set solid.

    Once frozen through, remove from the cases and serve (or bag up and pop straight back in the freezer to eat later).

    These are great to munch on straight out of the freezer as a healthy snack or dessert, or for a fresh idea for breakfast you could throw a few into a bowl of granola or cereal, yum!

    You could even pack them in a lunch box - the yoghurt will melt enough to eat with a spoon by lunch time but it will still be lovely and cool and make a tasty and healthy dessert. Just be sure to pack them in a leak-proof tub or compartmented lunch box like the Yumbox.

      Love the funny faces! We did something similar this summer, but stuck lolly sticks in them first, so they could be eaten as ice lollies. They were very popular!

      You sound just like me! I like to get the children involved in cooking as much as possible...it generally means that they eat the food that they otherwise might not! It also gets them trying new things I find. Love this simple idea...frozen yogurt is lovely!

        I think it would be fine - as long as you use the berries straight from the freezer and don't defrost them in between - that way they won't go mushy!

      LOVE this on so many levels. One, yogurt being so healthy. Two, fruit being so healthy. Three no oven is involved. Four, anything frozen is an automatic treat! Can't wait to do this with the kids!
