Today I'm sharing one last book bento lunch from my World Book Day celebrations last week, this time themed on Stick Man, by Julia Donaldson. The book for this fun themed lunch was picked out by me - after making a Gruffalo book bento lunch recently (and a Tiddler book bento for World Book Day last year) I decided to dig out another fantastic Julia Donaldson book to inspire me! Small Child (thankfully) recognised what I was doodling on his sandwich straight away, and enjoyed matching up the various bento picks I used to decorate it with the parts of the story, so I was very happy with this healthy bento lunch!
In this lunch I packed a cream cheese and turkey sandwich on whole-wheat bread, which I topped with a piece of tortilla wrap cut to the same size. I doodled a quick sketch of Stick Man on the tortilla using edible marker pens, then attached it to the sandwich using a little more of the cream cheese. I rested the sandwich on top of a couple of silicone lettuce leaves to decorate and help keep it in place, and added a few sticks (bread sticks!) decorated with leaf bento picks so that Small Child could make his own Stick Man. On the side I packed raw sugar snap peas, purple carrots, cut into flower shapes, clementine segments, blueberries and some dried banana chips. I decorated the sides with various food picks to represent some of Stick Mans adventures throughout the book - a dog, boat, flag, sword and duck. This lunch was packed in our Yumbox Panino bento box.
Here's a closer look at my attempt at Stick Man - I'm no Axel Scheffler but I was pleased with my quick effort!
Small Child loved his Stick Man book bento lunch, and I even got a lovely comment about it from one of his dinner ladies!
