Easy Halloween Food Art for Toddlers

Today I'm sharing a couple of really easy Halloween food art snack plates for toddlers.

I do love having fun with food and my boys always love a plate of food art, no matter how simple - they'll always eat the lot, even if it includes foods that they might normally turn their nose up at, so when Organix contacted me recently and asked me to share a super cute Halloween food art plate they'd put together I was more than happy to share it with you.

I decided to make a couple of my own junk free Halloween food art designs too, and my boys thoroughly enjoyed eating the results!

Being creative and playful with food is a great way to encourage little ones to explore and enjoy a whole world of exciting tastes, textures and shapes – and a simple way for parents to introduce variety and encourage self-feeding.  In a recent Organix survey, mums rated making mealtimes fun for their child (76%) and allowing their child to play with and experiment with their food (75%) the top two things to encourage a positive attitude towards food, and as a mum myself I quite agree!

First up of my creations is a fun bat themed food art plate.  I decided to use some of the same ingredients as for the spider plate (see below) to provide more than one idea from the same set of ingredients.

Bat Food Art Plate

Ingredients:

  • 3 blackberries
  • 3 Organix raspberry and blueberry rice cakes
  • Cheese of your choice (I used smoked cheese)

Method:

Start by cutting each rice cake in half. This can be a bit tricky, but I've found from trial and experience that cutting them with a serrated knife gently back and forth in a sawing motion was the best way to cut them without them crumbling too much.

Place the blackberries on the plate with a good space between each of them.  Add two halves of a rice cake  to each blackberry to form wings, with the purple side up. Take a tiny circle cutter or cut the end off a plastic drinking straw and make mini circles of cheese for the eyes.  Add two eyes to each bat, then finish with a circle of cheese for the moon.

I've created a very short but fun video to show you how easy these are to make, you can watch it here on YouTube if the video below doesn't work for you. Don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel while you're there for lots more fun food ideas!

Next I used the same Organix raspberry and blueberry rice cakes to form the base of some little edible witches hats.  These were quick and easy to make and would make great Halloween party food too!

Edible Witches Hat Snack

Ingredients:

  • 3 Organix raspberry and blueberry rice cakes
  • 2-3 slices of ham
  • cream cheese

Method:

Place the rice cakes on a plate, purple side up. Take a smallish circle cutter (I used the second smallest cutter from this nesting circle cutter set) and cut 3 circles from the ham. Cut each circle in half so that you have 6 semi-circles of ham (tip, to minimise wastage from the ham, you can cut half circles from the scraps and trim them with a sharp knife to make semi-circles).

Take each semi-circle of ham and bend into a cone shape. Add a small dab of cream cheese to stick the ends of ham together. Pop a ham cone on the top of each rice cake to form the witches hat and serve immediately.

Last but not least these spooky spider rice cakes from Organix would make a fun spooky snack or be perfect for a spooky Halloween tea party!

Spooky Spider Food Art Plate

Ingredients:

  • 3 Organix raspberry and blueberry rice cakes
  • 4 blackberries
  • 3 black grapes

Method:

Squish 2 of the blackberries in a small bowl with the back of a fork and cut the other 2 blackberries in half.

Using a clean paintbrush, paint a spider’s web with the juice onto a white plate.

Place 3 rice cakes on to the web, purple side up, then add a half blackberry to top each rice cake.

Slice each grape in half from top to bottom, then slice each half into 4 thin spider legs.  Add the legs to your spiders, then eat them up before they scurry away!

Organix have created a super fun little video to show you how to make them, you can watch it here on YouTube if the video below doesn't work for you.

You’ll find these scary Halloween rice cake spiders and lots more fun and imaginative ideas for finger foods over on the Organix website.

If you're planning on trying out some of these ideas or coming up with your own this Halloween, do share your photos on social media using the hashstag #organixfoodfun, Organix would love to see them!

These are so cute! My daughter can't have dairy right now so I'm trying to find things for her to eat to get protein. This is perfect!
