Today I've got another fun and easy Halloween bento lunch to share with you, and as you'll probably guess from the title, this one has a bat theme!
I started preparing this lunch by cooking a simple quesadilla. To make it, I took a wholemeal tortilla wrap, folded it gently into quarters then unfolded it and cut a bat shape from one of the quarters using a bat shaped cookie cutter. I then popped the tortilla into a dry frying pan, and spread a little tomato puree over half of it, making sure that the bat shape was on the other half. I topped the tomato puree with grated cheese and finely chopped red pepper then laid over spinach leaves. I then folded the top half of the wrap over the fillings, making sure there was a good covering of spinach under the bat cutout. I popped the heat on and toasted the quesadilla gently, folding in half again once the bottom was toasted, ensuring that the bat remained on top. Once the cheese was all melted I removed the quesadilla from the pan and left it to cool. Once cold, I trimmed it down to fit and popped it into the lunch box, finishing it off with a fun eyeball bento pick.
On the side I packed a fresh fig, chopped into quarters and some red grapes, which I decorated with a cute vampire cupcake ring. I also packed some natural yoghurt and some biltong, which Small Child took a real liking too after I received some to try in a goody bag from a recent blogging event. I must admit I couldn't stand it myself, but Small Child was a big fan and requested it for his lunch box, so rather than waste it I agreed! I also popped a few Halloween sprinkles in the small dip pot for him to sprinkle over his yoghurt before eating.
His snack that day was a small handful of blueberries and some raw carrot sticks, which I decorated with a bat cupcake pick. You can see lots more easy snack ideas like this here: Halloween Themed Healthy Snack Ideas for Kids. This lunch was packed in our blue Yumbox Panino bento box, and the snack was packed in the larger of our Goodbyn Dippers containers.
Small Child polished the whole lunch off without any trouble!
