Today I'm sharing some new ideas for fun healthy snacks for toddlers. As a mum with a toddler myself, I know that time is usually short once the 'I'm huuungry' cries start, so these cute ideas are all super quick and easy to put together, even with a toddler clinging to your legs! I made them using some fantastic new toddler snacks from Organix, which are perfect for taking along with you when you're out and about, but also fab for making fun food at home!
As I've mentioned in previous posts, this year I'm working with Organix as one of their No-Junk Mums, a role that I am really enjoying! Organix have been a part of our life for years, from when I first bought their pure fruit purees when my now 8 year old was weaning and continuing on with Small Baby, who turned 3 (3!) a few days ago. I feel very privileged to be able to work with Organix to help campaign for better food for our children and also to showcase some of their wonderful products.
I talked in an earlier post about how tricky it can be to find genuinely healthy foods to feed our children, while the wider food industry markets foods as 'healthy'when they're actually stuffed with (often hidden) sugars and additives. On the positive side though, I know that I can always trust Organix products as they have clear labelling, fantastically short ingredients lists and are incredibly transparent about what they put in their food, with a No Junk promise on every pack for good measure! I had the chance to visit the Organix offices last week (more about that in another post coming soon!) and was SO impressed with the passion that they have for their mission of not just providing real food for kids, but also campaigning to change the whole food industry for the better.
Organix have recently launched lots of delicious new products, and they sent us a lovely bundle of goodies to try. We were most excited about the Puffcorn - a toddler friendly alternative to popcorn with no kernels to choke on! The Puffcorn comes in two flavours - Banana and Sweet Cinnamon and is perfect for a healthy snack or to pop in a lunch box. Another new product is the Mini Cheese & Chive Breadsticks, my 3 year old is a particular fan of these and loves dipping them into houmous before eating.
I used both of these new snacks when creating this fun little lunch for my toddler earlier today. He had a train sandwich, of cheese on wholemeal bread, which I cut into shape using one of our Lunch Punch Sandwich cutters. I decorated the sandwich with slices of baby cucumber and an elephant bento pick for a driver, and finished the scene off with Banana Puffcorn for the smoke and Cheese & Chive Breadsticks for the track. He absolutely loved this lunch, the Puffcorn and Breadsticks being the first bits to be demolished!
On the sweet treat side, the Organix new Crispy Bars (in Cocoa & Orange and Berry flavours) make a yummy change to our favourite oaty bars, and the oaty bars now come in a mini treat size too. The Mini Oaty Bites are sold in a bag of two mixed flavours - Apple & Orange and Raspberry & Apple, great for tucking in your handbag or changing bag for a mini snack at any time!
I used the Crispy Bars and Mini Oaty Bars to make some fun snacks for the boys to try, and they were received very well. My younger son particularly enjoyed the Mini Oaty Bites, unsurprisingly, since he already loves the oaty bars, and my older son loved the Crispy Bars. As an aside, I served them up on some gorgeous new eco friendly bamboo crockery from the Croque-Maman Boutique which is run by a lovely fellow food blogger. Check out the instructions for making these fun snacks below!
Crispy Bar Bugs
Ingredients:
- 2 Organix Crispy Bars
- 1 apple
- 2 strawberries
- eye bento picks, to decorate
Method:
Start by taking the bars out of their wrappers and placing them on a plate. Using a sharp knife, cut a round slice from the side of an apple, then slice it into small pieces for the legs.
Cut the top off the two strawberries, then add one to the top of each Crispy Bar for the heads. Finish off the bugs with eye bento picks and serve immediately.
Please note: The eye bento picks are plastic and therefore not edible. Be sure to supervise and help young children to remove the eyes before eating this snack!
Mini Oaty Aliens
Ingredients:
- 3 Mini Oaty Bites
- 3 raspberries
- blueberries to serve
- eye bento picks, to decorate
Take the Mini Oaty Bites from their wrappers and place in a bowl or on a plate. Pop an upside down raspberry on top of each Oaty Bite.
Push an eye bento pick through the raspberry to secure it by pushing it into the oaty bite below. Add blueberries to the bowl if wanted. Serve and enjoy!
Please note: The eye bento picks are plastic and therefore not edible. Be sure to supervise and help young children to remove the eyes before eating this snack!
Have you tried any of the new Organix snacks yet?

I've just bought a couple of new packs of Organix snacks that we've not had before - cocoa flavour cereal bar type things and carrotty ones - both are delicious and I've been eating them instead of the kids! x

The're so good aren't they! I think it's amazing what Organix manage to produce with such short ingredients lists - it's a shame more companies aren't like them!
