Make breakfast extra special with this healthy breakfast sundae recipe that the kids can make themselves. It's so quick and easy to put together!
Today I'm sharing a simple recipe for a really fun and healthy breakfast that children (or adults!) can make themselves - a yummy DIY breakfast sundae. The components of the sundae are all ordinary foods that work well for breakfast, but as always, it's all in the presentation, and this is definitely the prettiest breakfast I've had for some time!
This recipe is highly customisable. I find that lovely thick Greek yoghurt works beautifully, but you can use whatever flavour or type of yoghurt you prefer, even a dairy free alternative like soya yoghurt. You can use homemade or shop bought granola, or swap it for another cereal if preferred. The same goes for the fruit - you can use any fruit you like, fresh or dried - whatever works for you and your family!
As well as breakfast, I think this sundae would also make a great snack or healthy dessert - just scale the portions down to suit the occasion.
Ingredients
- Greek Yoghurt
- Granola of your choice
- Fresh mixed fruit (we used strawberries, raspberries & blueberries)
Method
Prepare the fruit and place it in a serving bowl, setting aside an extra pretty piece for the top of each sundae. Decant the yoghurt and granola into separate bowls, with spoons for serving.
Provide each child with a sundae glass (any tall glass or even a bowl would work equally well if you don't have sundae glasses). Allow them to help themselves to the ingredients - layering them a spoonful at a time in the glass. Top with a sprinkle of granola and the fruit that you had set aside and tuck in!
