This awesome glow in the dark Easter egg hunt idea is a fun Easter activity for kids that makes a great alternative egg hunt idea!

Are you worried about how much chocolate your children will eat over Easter? Do you want to find some alternatives to chocolate for Easter?

I've got some fun ideas up my sleeve to cut down a little on the sweet stuff (though there will still definitely be chocolate in our house, just not quite as much of it!) and I'm sharing another one of them with you today - an easy glow in the dark egg hunt!

A couple of weeks ago I shared a fun energy burning Easter egg hunt idea here on the blog, and today I have another sweet free Easter egg hunt idea for you, this time a glow in the dark Easter egg hunt!

I set this up for my boys yesterday evening, and it kept them occupied for absolutely ages, they had so much fun with it, hiding the eggs over and over again for each other! It was lovely to take a bit of time to have some Easter fun with them in the midst of the chaos of moving home.

This fun Easter egg hunt idea is really easy to set up, all you need is the following:

    • large plastic Easter eggs
    • glow sticks
    • sellotape

How to make a glow in the dark Easter egg hunt for kids - great alternative to chocolate

Start by snapping a glowstick to activate it.

Once it is glowing well, carefully bend it around your fingers a few times to form a couple of loops. This should make it small enough to fit inside the egg.

Stuff the glow stick inside one of the plastic eggs, and shut it firmly.

Seal the egg with a little sellotape to keep it closed.

Repeat until you have run out of eggs or glowsticks.

Hide the eggs around the room, then turn off the light and have fun finding them!

Kids will love this fun glow in the dark Easter egg hunt and it is so easy to set up

NOTES: To get a good assortment of different coloured glowing eggs, I matched the colour glow sticks to the egg colour when possible, which made the colours more vivid.

I found the larger sized plastic eggs in Sainsbury's, but most supermarkets sell them - I've seen similar in Tesco & Asda. I found the glowsticks in the pound shop -  a pack of 20 for £1.

Check out my quick video showing how to put the glowing eggs together, it's very quick and easy to set up!
