This fun themed bento lunch for kids was inspired by the brand new Peter Rabbit Movie. With strawberry carrots, garden veggies and a cute Peter Rabbit sandwich!

Have you spotted the trailers for the new Peter Rabbit movie yet? We were lucky enough to have the chance to pop along to an early preview of the film a couple of weeks ago and we all loved it. This brand new take on the classic Peter Rabbit story is a funny modern comedy that my boys haven't stopped talking about since!
To celebrate the arrival of Peter Rabbit in cinemas this month (it's released on the 16th March), I was commissioned to create an extra special Peter Rabbit themed bento lunch, which I'm really excited to be sharing it with you today!
If you have any trouble loading the bento lunch tutorial video above, click here to watch it on YouTube, and don’t forget to subscribe to the Eats Amazing YouTube channel while you are there for lots more easy recipes, tutorials and fun food ideas!
I have to admit that I don’t make packed lunches quite this elaborate every day but it really is a lot of fun to make the extra effort for a special occasion. You could get the kids involved to help make their own themed lunch too, they’ll love getting stuck in to create their own carrot strawberries and Peter Rabbit sandwich!
If you’re heading to the cinema to watch Peter Rabbit it would be great to make a fun themed meal together to eat before or after the film.
Peter Rabbit Bento Lunch
Ingredients:
- 100g orange candy melts
- 2 large strawberries
- 3 lettuce leaves
- handful sugar snap peas
- 2 cherry tomatoes
- ½ carrot, peeled and cut into sticks
For the sandwich:
- 2 slices wholemeal bread
- butter or butter spread
- 1 large slice ham
- 1 dried fruit roll-up
- 2 dark chocolate chips
Method:
Start by making the carrot strawberries. Place the orange candy melts in a small microwave safe bowl and melt following packet instructions.
Line a plate with baking paper. Holding them by the green leaves, dip the strawberries into the candy melts to completely cover them. Place on the lined plate and pop in the fridge for a few minutes until completely set.
Line a divided lunch box (we used our Yumbox Panino bento box) with lettuce leaves. Pop the carrot strawberries in one compartment, then add the sugar snap peas, cherry tomatoes and carrot sticks.
Once you've prepared the sides, it's time to make the Peter Rabbit Sandwich!
Start by making up the sandwich with ham (or a different filling of your choice). Cut a small slice off the ham before adding it to the sandwich so you can use it for some of the features.
Draw a rabbit shape on a piece of card then use it as a template. Place the card rabbit on top of your sandwich and cut around it with a sharp knife to create the Peter Rabbit shape.
Using small round cookie cutters and round mini bento cutters, cut two ovals from the ham for the ears, and a rounded triangle for the nose.
From a dried fruit roll, up, cut 2 ovals for the eyes, a thin crescent and a small thin piece for the mouth, and six thin pieces for the whiskers.
Place the sandwich in the lunch box, then add the features to create Peter Rabbit. Place two dark chocolate chips on top the oval eye pieces to finish the eyes. You can also ‘glue’ the features to the sandwich with a little cream cheese or mayo if wanted.
Enjoy!
Peter Rabbit comes to cinemas here in the UK on the 16th March, I hope you'll enjoy it as much as we did!
