Today I'm sharing how to make a fun monkey themed bagel lunch for kids. This simple monkey bagel looks impressive but is actually really easy to make with no elaborate equipment - all you need is a set of round cookie cutters.
This cute monkey bagel is perfect for popping in a bento box but it's so easy to put together that it would be great to make in bulk for party food too - a platter of monkey bagels would be perfect for a jungle or animal themed birthday party!
I don't have time to make super intricate bento lunches every single day, to be completely honest most of the lunches that I make for my boys are really simple and just decorated with bento food picks or cupcake rings and picks. I do love making themed lunches when I can though but even when I put a bit of extra effort in, I almost always still keep them pretty simple so that they still don't take a lot of time to make. This fun monkey lunch falls into that category - quick and easy to make but perfect for a special occasion!
Monkey Bagel Bento Box
Ingredients (makes 1):
For the monkey bagel:
- 1 bagel
- sandwich filling of your choice
- 2 gouda cheese slices
- 2 blueberries
- 1 slice red pepper
On the side:
- ¼ red pepper
- 2 pieces baby sweetcorn
- handful blueberries
- handful raspberries
- 1 Tbsp dried fruit
- 1 tsp dark chocolate chips
Method:
First make the monkey bagel. Ssplit and fill a bagel with a sandwich filling of your choice.
Next, make the cheese features from ready-sliced cheese. Using a small circle cutter, cut two circles of cheese for the ears. Use a medium sized cutter to cut a circle for the top of the face, then use a large cutter to create a rough oval for the bottom half of the face.
Lift the top of the bagel and add the cheese ears, so that they stick out on on each side. Replace the top of the bagel.
Place the other two pieces of cheese on top of the bagel to create the face shape.
Add two blueberries for eyes, then cut a sliver of red pepper and add on top to finish the mouth.
Place the bagel in a bento box, then add the fruit and vegetable sides to the lunch box too.
Finish the lunch with monkey themed bento picks to decorate.
Enjoy!
