A very happy May Day to you. Today is the 1st of May, when we traditionally celebrate the coming of spring. After what seemed like an endless winter, we are delighted that the weather has improved here at long last this week, and we're beginning to see lots of lovely sunshine. I decided to add a little springtime to Small Child's lunch in honour of the day, so we have flowers, butterflies and even a spring lamb.
In this lunch, Small Child has a selection of finger foods to nibble at. There are cute little baby carrots, some new potatoes, German sausage slices skewered on flower picks, some roasted edamame beans and a butterfly decorated Babybel cheese. On the side he has some red and green grapes decorated with a spring lamb cupcake topper, and a silicone cup filled with organic raspberry yoghurt and topped with a flower design made from blueberries. The cup of yoghurt has been frozen, blueberries and all, in the hope that it will hold its shape and not leak over the rest of the lunch before lunchtime.
I made the butterfly Babybel by cutting the butterfly outline into the wax with a mini bento cutter, then gently pushing the wings up and away from the cheese using the tip of a sharp knife. Here is a close up, I thought it looked quite pretty:
For his after school snack Small Child has some oatcakes, topped with a couple of cheese flowers, and orange slices, topped with flower picks to decorate.
I hope he enjoys his springtime lunch and snack!
