Today I have a real party feast to share with you, just in time for Halloween! Iceland asked me to get creative with their party food range this Halloween and I had a lot of fun rising to the challenge to create a fun but easy Halloween feast that kids (and grownups) will love!
I was really impressed with the selection at Iceland, not only was the #PowerOfFrozen in full force with a fantastic selection of party foods, nibbles and desserts in the freezers, but they also had plenty of fresh foods too, so I was able to buy everything I wanted for our spooky feast in one shop.
I found all of the traditional party foods available and some really lovely 'fancier' options too - the Jumbo Tempura Prawns and Salted Caramel Cheesecakes being particular highlights. Having done a bit of research on the party food range before heading to the shop, I was a bit disappointed that the mini chocolate eclairs had sold out, but my local store is a small one and I'm not surprised they are popular. Not to worry though, everything you need for a party from Iceland can also be ordered online.
I also ventured outside the main party food range to add to our selection - there were mini party pizzas available but I decided to go for a full size pizza cut into triangles for our wizards hats (see full details below) and garlic pizza bread for ghostly bites instead. I couldn't resist the sweet potato fries either, these are so yummy and always a massive hit with the whole family. Of course I also headed to the chilled section to add some fresh fruit and vegetables to the table too.
You can see the full feast above - doesn't it look great?! It was certainly greeted with delight from the gathered hungry hoards! Do read on for full details of the creative spooky twists I added to our Halloween menu!
I started with some fresh fruit and vegetables to add extra colour and healthy options to the table, serving them up in spooky goblets to help decorate the table and add to the Halloween feel. The spooky goblets were simply disposable plastic wine glasses bought from the pound shop that we decorated by drawing on spider webs with a sharpie marker pen - quick, easy, and it kept the boys occupied! I finished them off with a few plastic toy spiders to decorate.
- Farmer's Market Whole Cucumber £0.45
- Iceland Farmer's Market Carrots £0.60
- Farmer's Market Cherry Tomatoes £1.00
- Farmer's Market Seedless White Grapes £2.00
I also had some fun with the main party foods;
Wizards Hat Pizzas
- Iceland Thin & Crispy Cheese & Ham Pizza £1.00
- Iceland British 12 Mild Cheddar Cheese Slices £1.50
- Farmer's Market Cherry Tomatoes £1.00
- Iceland Farmer's Market Carrots £0.60
Bake the pizza according to pack instructions. Once cooked, slice into 8 triangles. Cut a slice of cheese into 8 strips and place one on each pizza slice as a hat band. Decorate with halved cherry tomatoes and/or carrot slices (I cut mine into pumpkin shapes using a mini cutter but plain circles would also work)
Witches Fingers
- Cafe Asia 16 Mini Kebab Selection £3.50
- Farmer's Market Mixed Peppers 3 Pack £1.00
Cook the kebabs according to packet instructions. Whilst the kebabs are cooking, cut a large slice from a yellow pepper and cut into 16 triangles to make 'fingernails'. Once cooked, remove kebabs from the oven and leave to cool a little. Place on a plate or serving platter and top with the pepper triangles to form fingers. Note: These kebabs were quite spicy, a bit too hot for my boys but the adults enjoyed them!
Also shown:
- Iceland 16 Sticky Chicken Skewers with Sesame Seeds £3.00
- Iceland Sweet Potato Fries £2.00
Ghostly Garlic Bread Bites
- Iceland Takeaway Slice 'N' Share Garlic & Cheese Pizza Bread £1.00
- Deli Speciale Pitted Black Olives £1.00
Bake the garlic and cheese pizza bread according to pack instructions. Whilst the pizza bread is cooking, cut 5-6 olives into round slices. Once cooked, remove from the oven and leave to cool for a minute or two. Once cool enough to handle, cut circles from the pizza bread using a round cookie cutter. Top with the olive pieces to form eyes.
Sausage Pumpkin Patch
- Iceland 30 Pork Cocktail Sausages £1.00
- Iceland Farmer's Market Carrots £0.60
Cook the sausages according to pack instructions. Whilst the sausages are cooking, use a small pumpkin shaped cutter to cut shapes from the carrot. Push a cocktail stick into the bottom of each carrot pumpkin to create a fun edible decoration. Once the sausages are cooked, transfer to a bowl and top with the carrot pumpkins.
Eyeball Cheesecakes
- Iceland 12 New York & Salted Caramel Cheesecakes £3.00
- Farmer's Market Strawberries £2.00
- Farmer's Market Blueberries £2.00
Whilst still frozen, remove the cheesecakes from the packaging and set on a plate to defrost. Once defrosted, top each cheesecake with a round slice of strawberry and a blueberry to form spooky eyeballs. Serve immediately.
Other foods we bought from Iceland for our feast;
- Iceland 18 Jumbo Tempura Prawns £3.00
- Grissin Bon Italian Breadsticks (Wizards Wands!) £1.00
- Mr Kipling 8 Fiendish Fancies £1.00
- Mr Kipling 6 Chocolate & Slime Slices £1.00
- Cadbury 5 Pumpkin Patch Cakes £2.00
The total spend on party food was £34.05, an amazing price if you look at the amount of food we had on the table, which included a great selection of yummy cakes and desserts! I love how convenient it was both to quickly whizz around one shop to buy everything we needed and to prepare the food once we got home too - much as I love a homemade party spread, when you're catering for a crowd and time is at a premium, shortcuts are definitely welcome. It only took me around 45 minutes to put the whole feast together, with a little help on the decorating side from my boys.
Have you tried any of Iceland's party food range? Don't forget, you can order it online to save a bit of extra time!
