Harry Potter Themed Food - How to Make an Edible Book Sandwich

Today I have another fun Harry Potter themed food idea to share with you - a completely edible book sandwich!

This fun and easy edible book sandwich recipe is perfect for Harry Potter party food or a cute Harry Potter themed lunch for kids

For World Book Day this week I made a fun booked themed lunch for each of my boys, based on their chosen costumes.

This fun edible book sandwich was one of the Harry Potter themed foods that I packed in my older son's Harry Potter lunch, and it went down so well when I shared it on Instagram that I think it deserves a blog post of its own!

Be sure to check out my tutorial video so you can see just how easy this is to make!

This cute book sandwich is actually super easy to create. The 'cover' of the book is a standard tortilla wrap, which I cut to size then decorated with an edible food writer pen. It's very quick to make so you could easily make a whole library of book sandwiches for a Harry Potter or book themed party!

To speed up the process you could keep the book cover design really simple with just a title, or go as elaborate as you like with colourful food pens - whichever works best for you!

As this was for a Harry Potter themed lunch, I chose a suitable book to recreate in food form - the classic 'Quidditch Through the Ages'.

    Edible Book Sandwich

    Ingredients:

    • 2 slices bread
    • sandwich filling of your choice
    • 1 large tortilla wrap
    • black edible food writer pen

    Method:

Make up a sandwich with a filling of your choice. Cut the sandwich into a neat rectangle.

Place the sandwich on top of the tortilla wrap, then use it as a guide to cut out a larger rectangle for the book cover. The length of the rectangle should be two and a half times as wide as the short side of the sandwich, and the width slightly longer than the long side of the sandwich.

Fold the tortilla rectangle around the sandwich to make the book cover. The tortilla should stay in place once folded, but if it needs sticking down you can use a little cream cheese, hummus, peanut butter or honey as edible 'glue' to hold it in place.

Draw on your book cover design using the edible food writer pen. I roughly copied the front cover of 'Quidditch Through the Ages' but you can use any book cover of your choosing.

Pack in a lunch box or arrange on a plate to serve.

    Enjoy!
