These cute marshmallow bunnies are surprisingly easy to make and perfect for a cute Easter treat for the kids - big and small!
With all that is going at the moment, I'm doing my best to look on the bright side and here on the blog it's going to be business as usual as much as possible. I've been busy planning, testing and photographing lots of new recipes that you can make with the kids at home, and today I'm starting our Easter celebrations with these cute marshmallow bunnies!
Fun Fact - a group of wild rabbits is called a fluffle or colony!
My 6 year old was particularly interested as I was trialling making these and he got stuck right in with making his own, so I can confirm that this is definitely an easy enough recipe for kids - he did a great job!
Easter is going to be a bit different for everyone this year, but we're going to be focusing on fun food, crafts and games with the kids to make it as fun as possible in the circumstances. These Marshmallow bunnies make a great edible craft activity, and you can add the finished bunnies to Easter baskets, Easter desserts, as cupcake or Easter cake toppers or serve them up just as they are for a fun Easter bunny themed treat.
Marshmallow Bunnies
Ingredients (makes 12):
- 6 pink marshmallows
- 6 white marshmallows
- 9 pink mini marshmallows
- 9 white mini marshmallows
- black and pink edible marker pens
- tubes of pink and white writing icing
Method:
Draw a bunny face on the side of a pink marshmallow using edible marker pens, or a fine (clean and unused!) paintbrush with food colourings.
With a clean pair of kitchen scissors, cut a pink mini marshmallow in half length-ways, to make two bunny ears.
Stick the mini marshmallow ears onto the top of the decorated marshmallow, using pink writing icing as edible 'glue'.
Cut a white mini marshmallow in half width-ways, to make two round bunny tails.
Stick a bunny tail onto the back of your marshmallow bunny using white writing icing.
Repeat with the remaining pink marshmallows, then do the same with the white marshmallows, reversing the colours so that they have white ears and pink tails.
Serve your fluffle of bunnies on a plate or platter and enjoy!
Alternative Options
If you don't have edible marker pens, try using a fine paintbrush with food colourings to paint on the faces instead. Ensure the paint brush is clean and hasn't been used for painting prevously.
If you don't have writing icing, you can make your own icing paste using icing sugar and a little water, or try sticking the ears and tails on with other edible 'glues' such as melted white chocolate, honey, or even a small dab of cream cheese.
