Pitta Bread Pizza
Ingredients (makes 2):
- 2 pitta breads
- 1 Tbsp tomato puree
- handful grated mozzarella cheese
- extra pizza toppings of your choice (optional)
Method:
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F/Gas Mark 4).
Prepare any toppings you want to add to your pizza. We used sliced Peperami and sliced red pepper.
Place the pitta breads on an oven tray.
Spread a thin layer of tomato puree over the top of each pitta bread, going right to the edges.
Sprinkle over the grated cheese, again, going right to the edges.
Add your pizza toppings. You can arrange them in fun shapes (faces are always fun!) or just sprinkle them evenly over the pizzas - it's entirely up to you!
Bake in the oven for 8-10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
Leave to cool for a few minutes before serving, then serve whole or cut into slices.
Alternative Pizza Base Ideas:
If you don't have pitta breads, try other breads for the pizza bases - unless indicated below, they all cook in the same way, for 8-10 minutes in the oven. Here are some suggested bread ideas that work really well for pizza bases:
- English Muffins (split in half)
- Bagels (split in half)
- Tortilla Wraps (cook for a slightly shorter time - 5-8 minutes)
- Flatbread
- Naan bread
- baguette (split in half lengthways)
What cheese can I use on my pizza?
If you don't have grated mozzarella cheese, try the following substitutions instead:
- grated cheddar cheese
- grated red Leicester
- grated hard goats cheese
- grated Edam
- grated Gouda
- grated Emmental
- grated Gruyere
- torn or grated fresh mozzarella ball
- mini mozzarella pearls
- crumbled feta cheese
- crumbled soft goats cheese
