This simple but fun 3 ingredient alcohol-free cocktail (mocktail) recipe for kids is perfect for New Years Eve and other family celebrations!
I have another New Year's Eve inspired recipe for you today - a super simple 3 ingredient mocktail for kids which I've named a New Year Sunrise!
Whether the kids celebrate early on New Year's Eve or stay up until midnight, it's great to have an alcohol-free cocktail option so they can toast the new year in with everyone else!
I've had this mocktail in mind for a while now, but had trouble finding the grenadine needed to make it really special. Luckily I spotted some in my local supermarket recently so I put it straight in my basket ready for the festive season.
Be sure to check out my recipe video so you can see just how easy these are to make!
If you haven't tried grenadine before, it's a simple fruit syrup that adds extra fun to all sorts of drinks! Poured in slowly, it will sink to the bottom and add a beautiful red layer to the glass. It can usually be found it in the alcohol aisle, but it's definitely alcohol-free so child friendly.
My boys absolutely loved testing this mocktail for me and now they'd have a shot of grenadine in every drink possible if I let them. I have a feeling I'll be making these several times over the next week or so as we celebrate Christmas and New Year!
New Year Sunrise Mocktail for Kids
Ingredients:
- orange juice
- sugar free lemonade
- grenadine
- orange slices or other fruit to serve
Method:
Lay out as many glasses as you need.
Cut slices of orange or other fruits of your choice ready to decorate the glasses.
Fill each glass about a third of the way up with orange juice.
Add lemonade to fill the glass, leaving a small gap for the grenadine.
Very slowly and carefully pour a small amount of grenadine into each glass. You may find it easier to pour a small amount of grenadine into a shot glass or other small glass first and pour from there. The grenadine should sink to the bottom to form a pretty red layer.
Add a slice of orange to the side of each glass and finish off with a straw or two and foil cocktail sticks if you have them.
Serve immediately and enjoy!
