I've mentioned before that I often struggle to get my kids to drink enough water, which particularly worries me now that summer is coming and the weather is warming up. I've found over time that presenting water in new ways can really help, especially if I can make it fun!
Recently I've been trying different fruit infused waters for the kids and they've been such a hit with both of my boys, they've been delighted to drink up all of their water which has made me feel a bit happier about the possibility of managing to keep them hydrated this summer.
Today I'm sharing one of our fruit infused water recipes, a lovely summer berry mix that has been the favourite flavour so far for my eight year old.
Summer Berry Fruit Infused Water
Ingredients:
- handful strawberries
- handful raspberries
- handful blueberries
Method:
Prepare the ingredients; wash, hull and slice the strawberries, gently wash the raspberries and blueberries.
Drop the fruit into the bottle or flask a few pieces at a time, alternating between fruits so that they are well mixed.
Fill the bottle to the top with cold tap water or chilled filtered water if you prefer. Add a straw if wanted and screw on the lid if you have one.
Leave to infuse for 10 minutes then serve and enjoy! Once the water has all been drunk, you can continue to fill and refill the fruit filled bottle all day long. I'd recommend filling it up and popping it in the fridge between drinks to keep the water chilled and the fruit fresh.
At the end of the day when you have finished with water, tip out the fruit, drain in a colander then enjoy an instant fruit salad - perfect with a dollop of natural yoghurt!
Notes: I've been using some super cute mini milk bottles for our infused waters (similar ones can be found here on Amazon UK) but you can use any glass, bottles or flasks. I've just found and ordered these plastic mason jar style 'glasses' which would be perfect for infused waters too - and the glass versions seem to be very easy to find in the shops at the moment if your children are a little older.
I've found that clear vessels do seem to work best, if the boys can see the fruit, they tend to drink more, probably the novelty value but I'm a great believer in eating with your eyes so I expect it's the same for drinks!
I'll be sharing more fruit infused water recipes for kids here on the blog in the next few weeks, but if you're looking for more ideas to keep the kids hydrated, you might also like my rainbow fruit ice cubes and rainbow fruit juice ice cubes, and you'll find lots of smoothie recipes in the drinks section here on the blog too.

Hi! These re-hydrating techniques sure are the bomb this season. But if the water is consumed already, how many times would you be able to refill these bottles? I'm concerned about the decay rate of the fruits inside the bottles.
