It’s day twenty of the Eats Amazing Advent Calendar and today I have another healthy Christmas recipe for you. This gorgeous candy striped smoothie was inspired by tradition candy canes - isn't it pretty?!

Easy candy striped smoothies - fun and healthy Christmas drink - perfect for a North Pole breakfast - Eats Amazing UK

When I first had the idea for this recipe I was considering how to make it mint flavoured, but then some strawberry candy canes caught my eye and my recipe idea got instantly easier! I realised that mint wasn't necessarily the only flavour I could base my smoothie on so I went for the a different flavour, a combination of berries and vanilla - every bit as delicious and easy to make too - win win!

    Candy Striped Smoothies

    Ingredients (serves 2-3):

    For the white layer:

    • 2 bananas (frozen)
    • 150ml milk
    • 50g Greek yogurt
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract

    For the red layer:

    • 200g frozen mixed red berries
    • 150ml milk
    • 50g Greek yoghurt
    • 1 tbs honey or maple syrup

    To decorate (optional):

    • strawberry flavoured candy canes

    Method:

The night before needed, slice up 2 bananas, throw them into a freezer bag and freeze overnight.

When ready to make, get the glasses ready for serving and peel the plastic wrapper from 2 or 3 strawberry candy canes if using to decorate.

First make the white layer. Place the frozen banana slices, 150ml milk, 50g Greek yogurt and 1 tsp vanilla extract into a high speed blender.

Whizz together until smooth, then quickly tip into a clean bowl or jug.

Working quickly, place the frozen berries, 150ml milk, 50g Greek yogurt and honey or maple syrup into the blender (no need to wash it out).

Whizz together until smooth, then quickly tip into another clean bowl or jug.

Using two spoons, scoop spoonfuls of the two smoothie mixtures into the glasses in alternate layers.
