If the kids are upset about missing out on trick-or-treating this year, why not plan some fun food projects for them instead - they'll have loads of fun both making and eating their creations! You'll find more monster food ideas further down this post and loads more spooky recipes in our Halloween food section.

These chocolate monster pops were made from a selection of brightly coloured candy melts – green, orange and yellow, but you could use any combination of colours or just one colour if you prefer. You can also make them from ordinary chocolate - white, milk, or dark chocolate or a combination of all three would also work brilliantly.

    Easy Chocolate Monster Pops

    Ingredients (makes 12):

    • 100g green candy melts
    • 100g orange candy melts
    • 100g yellow candy melts
    • handful large candy eyeballs
    • handful small candy eyeballs

    Equipment:

    • 12 x 15cm bamboo skewers or cake pop sticks

    Method:

Line 2 baking trays with grease proof or baking paper. Place 6 of the skewers or sticks equally spread out on each baking tray.

Place each colour of candy melt into separate microwave safe bowls and melt one of them following package instructions. Keep a close eye on them to make sure that they don't burn – they melt very quickly!

Once melted, spoon the melts into a disposable piping bag or small plastic freezer bag.

Snip the corner off, then pipe in a random squiggly pattern over one of the skewers. Repeat with 3 more skewers or until all the mixture has been used up.

Working quickly, push an assortment of large and small candy eyeballs into each pop to turn them into monsters.

How to make easy chocolate monster pops for Halloween - step 3 add candy eyeballs

Repeat with the other two colours of candy melts until you have 12 monster pops.

Once finished, place the trays of monster pops in the fridge to harden and set – about 15 to 20 minutes should be enough.

Remove from the fridge and store in a cool dry place until ready to serve.

    Enjoy!
