    Easy Halloween Party Food - Monster Chocolate Popcorn Balls Recipe

    A fun twist on the classic rice crispy cakes recipe - this popcorn version is super quick and easy to pull together, with added candy eyes, which turn the yummy chocolate covered popcorn balls into spooky edible monsters for the perfect Halloween treat!

    Monster Themed Chocolate Covered Popcorn Balls in Silicone Muffin Cups

    It's the first of October today, and that means I'm allowed to think about Halloween at last! When it comes to fun food, Halloween is my favourite season, as you'll see from the extensive collection of fun and easy Halloween recipes you'll find here on the blog.

    Halloween season always fills me with creative ideas, there are so many spooky themes to choose from, from spiders to ghosts, pumpkins to mummies, bats, cats and witches hats... and monsters of course!

    Monster Themed Easy Chocolate Popcorn Balls

    Ingredients: 

    • 50g plain popcorn
    • 30g raisins
    • 200g dark chocolate
    • handful edible candy eyeballs

    Ingredients for monster popcorn balls - popcorn, dark chocolate, raisins and candy eyeballs in bowls

    Method: 

    Measure out the plain popcorn and raisins into a large bowl. 

    Break up the dark chocolate and place it in a microwave safe bowl.

    Melt the chocolate in the microwave in 30 second bursts, stirring between each one to ensure it melts evenly. Be careful not to overheat or burn the chocolate, heat only until just melted and smooth.

    Pour the melted dark chocolate over the popcorn and raisins.

    Stir well until the popcorn is completely coated in the chocolate.

    Spoon the chocolate covered popcorn and raisin mixture into silicone muffin cases.

    Push 3 candy eyes into the top of each popcorn ball - they should be held in place by the melted chocolate.

    Place the filled muffin cases onto a tray or plate and place in the fridge to chill until completely set - around 15-20 minutes.

    Remove the popcorn balls from the muffin cases.

    Serve up for a fun Halloween treat!

    NOTE: The popcorn balls are best eaten fresh but will also keep for a few days in an airtight container – store in a cool dry place until ready to serve.
