It’s day five of the Eats Amazing Advent Calendar, and today I have a really fun Christmas bauble snack idea to share. I came across some clear fillable baubles recently and instantly thought how fun they would be for holding snacks (I spend a lot of time thinking about food, can you tell?!). I put a snack together and tried them out on my boys and they absolutely loved it, so I thought you might enjoy the idea too.
The clear baubles are available from craft shops and online - they're made of plastic and pop apart into two halves for easy filling. I hung ours from a mini Christmas tree as we don't have our main tree up yet, but hiding them on your Christmas tree or hanging them around the house would make a really fun Christmas treasure hunt, with healthy snacks as the prizes!
As well as sharing the snack foods that we had ourselves in the photos, I’ve put together a quick list below of other foods that are small enough to fit inside these baubles, and if you have a look around your local supermarket, you’re bound to find plenty more. Most are healthy, some are treats - everything in moderation as they say!
Fruits
Blueberries, grapes (sliced lengthways), raspberries, blackberries, cherries, cut up strawberries, mandarin segments, small chunks of melon, pineapple or mango.
Dried fruits
Raisins, blueberries, cranberries, banana chips, apricots, apple rings, mango, pineapple, freeze fried strawberries, fruit bars, fruit snacks, yoghurt covered raisins.
Vegetables
Carrot disks, cucumber chunks, raw pepper pieces, sugar snap peas, sliced baby sweetcorn, cherry tomatoes, peas, sweetcorn, roasted chickpeas (check out my maple spiced chickpea recipe here).
Other foods and treats
Nuts, seeds, popcorn, cereal, mini weetabix, mini bread sticks, mini pretzels or pretzel sticks (snap them to fit), mini cheese savouries, mini ryvitas, mini biscuits, tiny sandwiches, cubes of cheese, corn snacks (we love these ones from Organix), mini rice cakes, crisps such as hula hoops, white chocolate buttons, smarties, chocolate coins, mini candy canes.
As I mentioned above, this post is part of the Eats Amazing Fun Food Advent Calendar. Every day from now until Christmas I’m sharing a new festive food idea here on the blog and I’m announcing them over on the new Advent Calendar page too, so do click on the link, bookmark it and pop back each day to see what’s new. Yesterday I shared some yummy edible Santa hats, today it’s this fun bauble snack and tomorrow… do come back to see what else I have in store for you!
