Happy World Book Day! All of this week I have been making book themed lunches for Small Child, and today's lunch is based on the Where's Wally books. I was feeling rather stumped for ideas when Small Child requested this book for one of his book bento lunches, but thankfully inspiration struck at the last minute and I managed to pull something Wally themed together!
In this lunch Small Child had ham slices, rolled and skewered on red and blue polka dot bento picks, some crackers, with a question mark drawn on the top one using an edible marker pen, red grapes and blueberries, topped with a dog bento pick (he doesn't really look like him but the dog was supposed to represent 'Woof' - Wally's dog!) slices of strawberries and cucumber (peeled) to make red and white stripes, natural yoghurt topped with a few red sprinkles and some dried cranberries. I printed out a couple of tiny Wally figures, and created my own bento picks using wooden cocktail sticks and some clear tape, adding them to the lunch to finish off the Wally theme. This lunch was packed in our blue Yumbox Classic.
To make this lunch even more fun, I decided to decorate the outside of Small Child's Yumbox too! I printed out a small section from one of the Where's Wally books (making sure that Wally was indeed in there somewhere!) and attached it to the top of the Yumbox using clear sticky back plastic. This worked really well - it kept the paper dry so the ink didn't run at all, but peeled off easily enough when I was washing up the Yumbox at the end of the day. I'll definitely use sticky back plastic for Yumbox decorating again in the future!
The Where's Wally lunchbox was a massive hit with Small Child, he loved hunting for Wally while he was eating his lunch!
