This solar eclipse themed lunch is a fun way to celebrate and learn about a solar eclipse!
Today has been a very exciting day so far due to an amazing solar eclipse that took place in our part of the world this morning. Very sadly for us we had heavy cloud cover in our area so we couldn't see a thing, but I know that a lot of people had better luck elsewhere in the UK so hopefully lots of you saw the eclipse. Small Child has been learning all about it school so for today's packed lunch I made him a special solar eclipse bento to celebrate!
To make Small Child's solar eclipse bento lunch, I started by creating some fun eclipse sandwiches. I used two sizes of my nesting circle cutters to make these, cutting circles from two kinds of bread and slotting them together to form the top layer of each sandwich. The sandwiches were filled with slices of roast beef, which I also cut into circles before adding to the sandwiches.
On the side I packed slices of cucumber with circles cut from them to represent the eclipse, black grapes topped with a few star shaped bento picks to represent the dark sky, a Babybel cheese with an eclipse cut from the wax using a round mini bento cutter and some raisins, topped with a yellow polka dot bento pick to represent the sun. This lunch was packed in our Yumbox Panino bento box.
