Good Knight, Sleep Tight Themed Lunch & Linky

Today is the day; World Book Day!   We have been celebrating all week with book themed lunches, and today is no exception.  Small Child gets to dress up in a book themed costume for school today and he chose to dress up as a prince.  He chose one of his favourite books ‘Good Knight, Sleep Tight’ as his book for the day, so that his lunch would match his costume (a boy after my own heart!).  As with all of my other posts this week, I am hosting a linky party at the end of this post,  so check out the links for more book related fun, and of course please add links to any blog posts you may have on today’s theme.  This could be a food or a craft post, as long as it is related to the theme in some way.

In this lunch Small Child had a sandwich, filled with ham & cut into a castle shape.  I cut holes in top piece of bread to make windows, and added a door made from pretzel sticks.  Small Child brought me one of his toy knights to help decorate!  On the side he had some more pretzel sticks (the knights spare ‘jousting sticks’ as Small Child said), some cucumber crowns and some carrot shields, decorated with a little cucumber skin.

For dessert he had some mini fruit kebabs (red grapes & blueberries) skewered on sword shaped picks. He also had some organic yoghurt topped with a little sugar princess (cupcake topper),  and some ‘chocolate pillow’ cereal.  The chocolate pillows were a reference to the main storyline of the book, in which the knight went on a quest to find the perfect stuffing for the princess’s favourite pillow, which had been  sat upon & squashed flat by the fat palace cat!

I found it quite hard to make a lunch based on this theme, but I got there in the end! I hope Small Child enjoyed it.

All I ask is that you stick to the theme of the day.

You did a fantastic job! I love your castle sandwich. I may have to copy yours in a future knight bento for my nephew. I tried a knight themed bento yesterday to link up and I struggled with it.
