Today I have an update to add to my review of my favourite reusable food pouches by Nom-Nom Kids. I use these all the time for packing yoghurt, homemade smoothies and homemade milkshakes in Small Child's lunch box, and I am a big fan!
You can read my original review of the Nom-Nom Kids pouches here, but I have a few extra thoughts on them to share with you today. your own!
When I first started using these pouches, Small Baby was very small indeed and nowhere near weaning, so I used them for Small Child's lunches. I found that they were absolutely brilliant for carrying yoghurt, particularly, and make a very eco-friendly replacement for single serve yoghurt pots and tubes etc. They can be frozen too, so I often fill them up with yoghurt that needs using up, then pop them in the freezer until I need them. For this reason, I count them as one of my essential lunch packing supplies.
Recently though, I experienced something of a revelation. I had weaned Small Baby onto food using a rough version of Babyled Weaning, which involved starting with finger food and skipping purees altogether, so it never occurred to me to try the pouches on Small Baby, despite that being what they were originally designed for (if you are feeding a baby purees by the way, these pouches would be absolutely invaluable, especially for when you're out and about, I wish they'd been around when Small Child was a baby!).
Small Baby however, had other ideas. He had seen his big brother drinking a homemade smoothie from the brightly coloured pouch, and tried desperately to get his hands on it. This was a light bulb moment for me - why not give him one too and see how he does?
I half-filled one with natural yoghurt and gave it to him, half expecting him to just play with it. Not when food is involved though - Small Baby was straight in there, wolfing it straight down (he likes his yoghurt!). Better than that though was the fact that he didn't spill a drop of it - zero mess, what a revelation!
He has his yoghurt in the pouches every day now, and he loves them so much that he gets them out of the draw that they are stored in and brings them to me several times a day, begging to have them filled up! We even took them on holiday, they were perfect for both boys for picnics on the beach.
I thought it would be fun to show in pictures just how much difference Nom-Nom Kids pouches have made to our mess levels at meal times. Here's a comparison: Nom-Nom Kids pouches vs a bowl and spoon:
I think it's pretty obvious which one wins!
Going back to the pouches as a lunch box accessory though, I think I'm going to have to get myself some more for the new school year - Small Baby has somewhat taken over our current ones!
Update: Since I wrote this post, I have started stocking the Nom Nom Kids pouches and their new snack pouches too, so they are now available in the Eats Amazing Shop!

I absolutely love our set of these. I fill them up with yoghurt at home for my littlest because, as you say, they are virtually mess free, and the older 2 love them too, because yoghurt obviously tastes nicer when you squeeze it out of a pouch!
We recently did a 700 mile drive and I filled all 10 of our pouches with yoghurt for the journey...and I even let them have a couple of them in the car as a healthy snack for when the whinging escalated!

I always carry snacks in my bag for my permanently hungry 3yr old, often a fruit pouch because its easy for her to eat when she's in a sling on my back. It would be brilliant to be able to take homemade smoothies out with us instead, that way I will know what's in it and I can include her favourites, as well as sneeking veggies in there!

I've been looking at these pouches for a while, after seeing them here on your blog. I'd love to have some for myself! Yes, i know they are for kids, but I'm childish and silly, so I'm sure they are fine for a 31 year old too… 🙂

These are so cute! What a fun way to eat apple and pear sauce. I bet the other kids at the lunch table will go home and ask their parents for some.

I would use them for yogurt, much more cost effective to buy a big pot and add whizzed up fruit for flavour instead of buying little pots for my 18 month old all the time! much less mess too!
