Today I'm sharing a fun fish themed sandwich food art plate along with a little video tutorial to show you how quick and easy it is to make. This post is part of a series of blog posts where I'm sharing fun sandwiches that I have created with the new range of Good Inside®* Sandwich Thins from Hovis®. Last week I shared a cute dog themed sandwich and packed lunch idea, today I have this fun fish food art and next week... you'll just have to watch this space for that one!
As I mentioned in my last post, I've found that Good Inside®* Sandwich Thins are such a great food to keep on hand for packed lunches and I almost always have a pack at home. They're perfect for those last minute 'run out of food' morning emergencies and if you've frozen them they can be popped in the toaster to defrost straight from the freezer, saving me on the school lunch front on many an occasion! As you'll see from these fun sandwich posts they're really easy to customise too, if you want to have a little creative fun with your lunches.
This fish themed sandwich is a good one to serve up on a plate at home, but you could of course pop it into a lunch box too. It's easy to make and I've designed it so that it uses the whole Sandwich Thin, so no wasted crusts or edges!
Fish Sandwich Thin
Ingredients:
- 1 Hovis® Best of Both® Good Inside®* Sandwich Thin
- tuna mayo or a filling of your choice
- edible icing eyes
- ½ carrot
- 1 slice cheddar cheese
Method:
First split and fill your Sandwich Thin with a filling of your choice. I filled mine with flaked tuna mixed with a little mayo, but almost any filling would work.
Next, cut off two opposite corners as shown in the video below to shape the Sandwich Thin. Cut one of the cut off triangles in half to make two smaller triangles.
Place the Sandwich Thin on a plate, then add the larger triangle to form the tail. Add the other two triangles (as shown in the video below) to form the fins.
Add an edible icing eye to the fish.
Next, take the carrot, peel it and cut it into slices, then using a small fish shaped mini cutter, cut out 6-8 little carrot fishes. Trim one of the off-cuts of carrot to make the mouth and place on the Sandwich Thin fish.
Take your slice of cheddar cheese, and using mini circle cutters, cut out 4-6 circles to form bubbles.
Place the cheese bubbles and carrot fish on the plate to finish your fishy food art.
Serve and enjoy!
