Today's lunch was a really simple one to put together. With only two weeks left of school before we break up for half term I have started letting Halloween themes creep into Small Child's lunches. I had a couple of leftover bread rolls to use up and instantly thought that with the addition of some vegetable legs, one would make a great spider, and I think it came out rather cute!
In his spider themed lunch Small Child had a crusty bread roll, split and filled with cream cheese and German sausage slices. I added slices of yellow pepper for the legs and cut out oval pieces of cheese for the eyes (he should probably have had eight of them, but two looked cuter!) which I 'glued' on with a little of the cream cheese. I finished the spider off with an edible marker pen, with which I dotted the eyes and drew on a mouth. On the side he had carrot sticks, a few more slices of German sausage, which were rolled up and held together with spider cupcake rings, and some blueberries and red and green grapes, topped with a spiderweb cupcake ring.
Here's the spider on a plate - I think he would make a great snack or even a fun party food - he was so quick and easy to put together!
Small Child didn't leave a scrap of this lunch, so I'm guessing he enjoyed it!
