Minion Sandwich Tutorial & Bento Lunch

Today I've got another fun sandwich idea for you, in the form of a super cute and very easy minion sandwiches tutorial. I'm also sharing a minion bento lunch too, so you can see one of these fun sandwiches 'in action'. 

As well as packing them in a lunch box, you could also serve them up for a fun snack or lunch at home, or even make them in bulk for a cute party food idea!  If you've got a little Despicable Me fan of your own, I'm sure they'll love these fun sandwiches inspired by the film!

I've made several versions of this sandwich, so you can see how adaptable this idea is - from English muffins and sandwich thins to standard crusty bread, you can add a minion face to pretty much any sandwich. 

You could also make minion pitta pockets, minion ciabattas or minion French sticks - whatever type of bread you have on hand you can use it to make cute minion food!

Minion Sandwich Tutorial

Ingredients

• 1 sandwich
• 1 dried fruit strip (I use a Bear yoyo)
• cheddar or other hard cheese

Equipment

• small sharp knife
• kitchen scissors (optional)
• 2 small circle cutters (see picture below for sizing)

Method

Make your basic sandwich. I used an English Muffin for this tutorial, which I split and filled with butter and a slice of roast beef. To keep it neat I cut the roast beef into a perfect circle using one of my nesting circle cutters before placing it in the sandwich.

Unroll your fruit strip, then cut off a piece big enough to wrap around the top half of your sandwich.  Tuck the ends inside the sandwich to keep it in place.

Cut off a small block of cheese the same size as your circle cutter. Trim it down to a thick slice, then cut it into a circle using the cutter.

Wrap another piece of fruit strip around the edge of the cheese circle and trim it so that it overlaps slightly.  Push the two ends of fruit strip firmly together so that they stick.  You may need to take it off the cheese to do this, then pop it back round the cheese once it's firmly stuck together, forming a ring.

Lay the cheese circle on top of the sandwich so that it is in the middle of the first fruit strip, forming an eye.

Use the circle cutter to cut out a mouth shape and a tiny circle cutter to cut out the pupil from the leftover fruit strip.  With the tip of the sharp knife, cut a couple of zig-zag pieces for the hair, and place them all on the sandwich to complete your minion.

I also made another minion using a sandwich thin, this time using a slightly smaller circle cutter to make two eyes rather than one.

As I mentioned above, I recently made a minion bento lunch for Small Child with one of these minion sandwiches, which you can see below. 

In addition to the sandwich, which was made on homemade bread and filled with ham, I also packed raw carrot and yellow pepper sticks, a small apple, cut into small chunks and topped with alphabet bento picks spelling out 'BAPPLE', some dried apricots and a couple of little minion jelly sweets that I couldn't resist popping in there as a treat. 

This lunch was packed in our Yumbox Panino bento box.
