Today I finally got around to trying a new lunchbox I bought a few weeks ago. It has a round container with a lid built into the box so is perfect for lunches that include dips. I wanted to use some more of the homemade houmous that I made a couple of days ago (recipe here) so decided to use it as a dip and provide finger foods to dip in it.
Here is today's lunchbox. As well as the carrot houmous in the container, I included red and yellow pepper sticks, cucumber sticks, carrot sticks, bread-sticks, some butterfly shaped tortilla crisps (tutorial here) and some cheese butterflies. I also decorated the houmous with a little bird and birdy footprints cut from cheese. I separated the 'wet' foods from the dry with some little silicone dividers.
For pudding Small Child had organic strawberry yoghurt in a car shaped tub with a few star sprinkles, some blueberries in a silicone cup with a little elephant pick and some apple and melon rounds. To make those I cut the apple into slices, then cored them with a mini star shaped cookie cutter and dipped them in orange juice to stop them going brown. I then filled the star 'holes' with melon slices cut using the same cutter. There were also extra melon stars under the apple.
I'm off to finish of the rest of the houmous for my own lunch now, it really is delicious!
