Under The Sea Bento Lunch Idea

Good morning, I hope you had a lovely weekend! Today Small Child went back to school after a lovely half term holiday, and I'm missing him already! The silver lining is that I have a little more time to squeeze in a bit of blogging, so today I'm sharing an under the sea bento lunch that I made for Small Child recently.  This lunch looks quite elaborate, but actually it was very simple to make - just simple pitta pockets with edible marker pen doodles to make it extra special!

In this bento lunch Small Child had a wholemeal pitta bread, toasted, split and filled with tuna, mayo, slices of cucumber and a few spinach leaves. I decorated the pitta breads with edible marker pens (more details below).  On the side he had some more cucumber, cut in to with a zig-zag pattern to make seaweed, a mini Babybel cheese, with a fish cut from the wax to decorate (I used a mini bento cutter to cut the shape), half a kiwi fruit, cut in half with a zig-zag shape (see instructions for the decorative kiwi here) and mandarin orange segments, decorated with a fish cupcake pick. I popped a few raisins and a chopped up Organix banana and date bar into the dip/treat compartment and finished the lunch off with a few ocean themed bento picks. This lunch was packed in our blue Yumbox Panino bento box.

Here's a closer look at the pitta pockets - I used mini bento cutters as templates to draw on the shapes with red edible marker pen, and added the water and other details with a black edible marker pen. I find that doodling on pitta breads or tortilla wraps is such an easy way to quickly decorate a lunch to match any theme you can imagine!

Small Child must have enjoyed this lunch - he ate every last bit of it!
