Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • Easy peeler or mandarin oranges

Equipment:

  • Small sharp knife
  • Non-toxic marker or food safe marker

Instructions

  • Take your first orange and turn it upside down so the little stalk is on the table.  Using a small sharp knife, score a cut right across the orange. You should cut through the skin but not into the orange flesh.
  • Turn the orange slightly and repeat 4 times, until you have 4 thin triangles cut into each side of the orange, radiating out from the middle.
  • Gently pull all the 'legs' away from the middle on one side. Repeat on the other side until your orange has 8 legs. Flip the orange over and pull out the legs from under it to rest pointing away from the orange - it should now look something like an octopus.
  • Draw on a face with your marker to finish, then repeat until you have as many octopuses as you need!

Notes

Note: I used a non-toxic sharpie to draw on the octopus faces, as the skin will be discarded and not actually eaten. You can also use a food safe marker if you prefer.
