This year I decided to try something a little different here on the blog and create some really fun alternative gift guides for children – all based around food! As Eats Amazing is all about encouraging children to have fun and experiment with their food, I thought it would fun to come up with lists of gift ideas for foodie children – either those who love food and/or cooking already, or those that could do with some encouragement to be more adventurous with food.
Last week I shared a fun list of gorgeous food themed toys and games for children, and today I have another list for you, this time packed full of cooking and baking present ideas that are perfect for children of all ages. If you are a regular reader of Eats Amazing, you’ll know that I am all for encouraging children to get hands on in the kitchen, so I’ve hunted down the very best gifts I could find to encourage little chefs of all abilities to develop those essential cooking skills and grow their confidence in the kitchen.
PLEASE NOTE: In order to keep the guide as accurate as possible, all prices shown are the RRP – actual prices may vary (do check out the links, you may well find some bargains!). This post contains some Amazon affiliate links, which means I may receive a small amount of commission on items purchased through the links.
I’m starting with some fantastic personalised gifts from Getting Personal. There’s something really special about having your name on your favourite kitchen tools – what a great incentive to get kids in the kitchen! Little rock stars (or chop stars!) will love this awesome Personalised Guitar Chopping Board (£24.99) and for the keen little baker, you can’t go wrong with a Personalised Rolling Pin (£12.99) – I’m chuffed to bits with mine!
If you’re a fan of the iconic Mason Cash mixing bowls, like the gorgeous red one I mentioned in my Steamer Trading Christmas Gift Guide last week, you’ll love this mini version designed for children: Mason Cash Fairy Cake Baking Set (£19.99). For older children and keen cooks, a kitchen scales set would make a great gift that’s a little bit different! This fab Salter Kitchen Gift Set (RRP £39.99, currently £24.99).comes with a timer and thermometer too – perfect to helping them hone their skills in the kitchen!
Put the fun into baking with the CuteZCute cutter sets! Though originally designed for sandwiches, these adorable cutter sets are also perfect for creating fun cookies, biscuits, pastry and icing decorations too and make lovely gifts. Clockwise from top left; CuteZCute Cuddle Palz Kit (£9.95), CuteZCute Robo Bread Cutter Kit (£10.95), CuteZCute Animal Palz Kit (£11.95) and the original CuteZCute Animal Friends Cutter Kit (£9.95) – all available exclusively in the UK from the Eats Amazing Shop.
For even more baking fun, this gorgeous set of 4 British Biscuit Cutters (£11.99) from Steamer Trading caught my eye – kids will love making all their favourite biscuits at home! Or have some educational fun with this alphabet cookie cutters set (£12.95) from Annabel Karmel, which comes complete with a baking tray too.
If you’re not sure what gift to choose, why not put together your own fun baking hamper? You can completely personalise it to your child’s tastes with cookie cutters, mini cutters, silicone baking cups, cupcake rings and cupcake picks tailored to your child’s interests. You’ll find a full range of cupcake rings and picks in the Eats Amazing Shop, and our mini bento cutters are perfect for cake decorating too! Clockwise from top left; Nesting Gingerbread Man Cookie Cutters, Under the Sea Themed Cupcake Picks, Jumbo Silicone Muffin Cases, Bee & Ladybird Cupcake Picks, Set of 12 Mini Bento Cutters and Woodland Creature Cupcake Rings, all available from the Eats Amazing Shop.
For novice chefs with busy parents, a baking kit is a great place to start! This organic chocolate fondant baking mix (£8.95) from Croque Maman is sure to be a hit, and they also stock a gluten free version (£9.95) – perfect for those with allergies. Why not pair your baking kit with a child-sized apron – my children would LOVE this cute Gruffalo apron (£9.99).
For some healthier baking mix ideas, check out Sweetpea Pantry. This lovely company makes a whole range of baking mixes designed for cooking with children, all stuffed with nutritious ingredients, healthy whole grains and NO refined sugar! The individual baking mixes are £4.99 each and they do gift packs too. The Ginger Giggles Biscuit Mix (£4.99) is perfect for Christmas!
My favourite online shopping find this year has been Wicked Uncle – this amazing site is full of quirky and unusual gifts for children and allows you to categorise everything by age, boys & girls and interests to help you find the perfect gift for even the most tricky child who has everything! I found this lovely Flowerpot Bread Making Set (£15.95) there and can’t wait to give it a go with my boys in the Christmas holidays.
Also from Wicked Uncle, how’s this for an unusual gift – The Big Cheese Making Kit! Priced at £23.95, this brilliant kit contains everything you need to make your own fresh Mozarella and Ricotta – my 8 year old can’t wait to try this one, it will make another really fun project to keep him entertained in the school holidays. I think this would make a great gift for older children or those who need a little encouragement to try new foods.
Hopping over to the extra easy end of the cooking spectrum, this fun Chocolate Bar Maker set (£14.99) from Cool Create is bound to be a hit with everyone! Complete with microwavable melting pot, moulds and wrappers, pair this set with some supplies of chocolate for the perfect gift.
Another easy kitchen activity for kids – we’ve had one of these Chillfactor Slushy Makers (£9.99) for a year now and the boys love making their own slushies in it! You can add anything you like – from fruit juice to squash to milk or smoothie mix – give it a squish and in minutes you’ll have an instant slushie – it really works!
Last but not least, the Banana surprise (£9.99) is a bit of a novelty, but definitely a fun way to get your kids eating fruit! Use it to fill bananas with a sauce of your choice for an extra fun dessert!
I hope you’ve found some fun present ideas here, be sure to keep an eye out for my final ‘foodie kids’ gift guide coming soon!
Do you have any other cooking or baking gift ideas to add to my list?
