I was going through my photos and noticed that I had a few ‘face’ meals sitting there all unloved and unposted, so I thought I’d round them up in one post. I think that adding a face, or even just eyes, is one of the quickest and easiest ways to make food more fun. My Mum used to make ‘face bread’ for our school lunches (homemade bread rolls shaped into faces before baking), and I absolutely loved them. Here are a few of the ‘face meals’ that I’ve made for Small Child recently:
Bread roll with veggie embellishments; Large wholemeal ‘bap’ roll with egg mayonnaise, decorated with cucumber, cheddar cheese and carrot. The hair was made by using a tiny hand shaped cutter to shape the edges of carrot disks.
Good morning porridge face: Porridge decorated with banana slices and blueberries, with a drizzle of honey for hair. This cheered Small Child up no end one grumpy morning last week!
Soup Face; Homemade vegetable soup decorated with cherry tomatoes and grated cheddar cheese; this works very well with a thick pureed soup like this one.
Pizza Whirl Face; This was one of my pizza whirl bread rolls, decorated with cheese & raisins for the eyes, and purple lettuce for the hair. This seems to be the only way I can get Small Child to eat lettuce voluntarily!
I hope you’ve enjoyed my mini gallery of edible faces, we had lots of fun making and eating them, and will probably continue to do so for some time yet! Do let me know if you’ve got any fun edible facesof your own to share!
