I'm pleased to say that I was worrying unnecessarily - today's recipe for Honey Mustard Sausage and Potato Skewers is possibly one of my favourite creations this year, so I'm very excited to share it with you!
One of my favourite things about this recipe is the fact that it can be prepped well in advance, so if you've got friends coming round you don't have to be stuck in the kitchen and you won't need to wait long for dinner to cook either, just whip the skewers out of the fridge and throw them on the BBQ as soon as it's ready.
These skewers also make a great family meal for a warm summer's evening - the flavours are mild and very child friendly.
Having moved house earlier this year, to say that our garden is not quite fit for visitors and barbecues yet would be something of an understatement - it was previously so overgrown that we're working on stripping it back to basics and starting our new garden design from scratch, so recipe testing BBQ recipes was always going to be a bit of a challenge!
Undaunted, I cooked our sausage and potato skewers on a disposable BBQ resting on a tree stump we're in the process of attempting to remove, but they still tasted utterly delicious despite the rough and ready surroundings.
The whole family really loved them and we're all agreed that we need to have another BBQ ASAP. I think that the upcoming bank holiday will be the perfect excuse to light up the BBQ and break out the Heinz Mustard again, I'm feeling hungry just thinking about it!
Honey Mustard Sausage & Potato Skewers
Ingredients:
- 18-20 small new potatoes (approx. 500g)
- six sausages (400g)
- 1 tbs olive oil
- 1 tbs cider vinegar
- 2 tsp honey
- 2 tsp Heinz Yellow Mustard - Honey
- black pepper to taste
To serve:
- pitta breads
- salad
- Heinz Yellow Mustard
Method:
Wash and cook the potatoes for 10-15 minutes in boiling water until just cooked through. Drain and leave to cool a little.
Meanwhile, fry or grill the sausages until fully cooked.
When they are cool enough to handle, cut each sausage into three or four pieces.
Thread the sausage pieces alternately with the potatoes onto metal skewers. Ours split nicely between 6 skewers - 1 sausage and three potatoes per skewer.
In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, cider vinegar, honey, Heinz Yellow Mustard and pepper until well combined.
Brush the mixture over the sausage and potato skewers, turning them as you do so that they are coated all over.
When the BBQ is ready for cooking, pop the skewers on and barbecue for around 10 minutes, brushing regularly with the leftover marinade mixture and turning them as they cook, until the potatoes are golden and starting to crisp up.
Serve the potatoes and sausage pieces in pitta breads with plenty of salad and Heinz Yellow Mustard to drizzle.
Notes: If preparing this recipe in advance, you can either store the cooled and cooked sausages and potatoes in the fridge until ready to assemble, or make up the skewers and store them in the fridge until ready to cook.
You can also assemble the marinade a couple of hours before use and pop it in an airtight tub in the fridge until ready to go. Make sure you save brushing the marinade on the skewers until just before cooking.
Heinz Yellow Mustard is available in two flavours; Mild and Honey, both of which come in a 220ml bottle. For more details check out the Heinz website.

These sound really delicious Grace and so simple to make 🙂
I'm really uninspired when it come to BBQs - burgers and sausages are just too popular in my household! I've recently managed to tempt everyone with some simple chicken and veg skewers and I suspect that these would go down really well too.
I love the sound of the mustard with honey. I'm a big fan of honey mustard salad dressing so I suspect I'd really enjoy this Heinz version on my sausages, I'll have to keep an eye out for it next time I'm at the supermarket.
Good luck with the garden renovations xx

Sounds yummy Grace! Definitely my kind of BBQ food. The weather is taking a turn for the worse here though. Hopefully, BBQ weather will be back next week 🙂
