    Rainbow Fruit Skewers

Today I'm sharing one of my really easy recipes for kids - a rainbow fruit skewers recipe.  This is such a simple recipe that even a toddler could get involved in making but the final result looks really pretty!

This recipe also comes with a child friendly printable recipe sheet so that your child can follow the instructions themselves - great for promoting independence in the kitchen! Scroll down to the bottom of the post for the free printable.

This activity can be adjusted to suit different ages of children - older children could try their hand at preparing the kiwi fruit and mango for example, or for younger children or toddlers you could prepare all the fruit for them and just let them do the threading.

Use your knowledge of your own child to decide whether they are ready to use a knife or not - I have allowed Small Child to use a small paring knife (under very close supervision) since he was around 4 ½, but it really depends upon the child.

    • red grapes
    • blueberries

    Method

Wash the strawberries, grapes and blueberries in cold water and pat dry.  Cut the tops off the strawberries and discard.

If the strawberries are big, cut them in half or into large chunks. Cut the grapes in half if wanted.  Put all of the fruit into bowls.

Arrange bowls by fruit colour in the order you wish to put them on the skewers.

Thread fruit onto skewers.  I used some pretty plastic skewers but bamboo skewers or even long cocktail stirrers would work too.  You could arrange the fruit in the same way for each skewer or mix them up - it's great to let your child decide.

    Serve immediately and enjoy!

These are really cute. I've searched everywhere for these particular skewers, however, but couldn't find them anywhere. Any suggestions? Thank you
