Zoo Lunch for BBC Radio Solent

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to go into the BBC Studios in Southampton for a live interview with Nick Girdler on BBC Radio Solent.  The interview took the form of a question and answer session, where Nick (who had been told nothing about me) had to guess why I was there.  I was asked to bring in a lunch to show him, as a clue in case he got stuck.  It was lucky I did, because, somewhat unsurprisingly, he was having trouble working it out! We got there in the end though, with the help of the lunch below.

In this lunch there was a boiled egg, shaped into a panda using the CuteZcute Animal Palz set, cucumber slices, shaped into flowers using a mini bento cutter, homemade tortilla crisps (see recipe here) shaped into elephants using a plunger cutter and decorated with an edible marker pen, some organic houmous, to dip the tortilla crisps in, a mini Babybel cheese, topped with alphabet picks spelling out 'ZOO', and some strawberries and grapes.  I added cute animal picks to complete the zoo, and some grass shaped silicone dividers to decorate.

The lunch went down very well with Nick, who seemed particularly fascinated with the panda egg, he couldn't quite believe it was real! After the interview, Small Child, who along with Mr Amazing had been listening along in the car outside, decided that he was hungry, so with the exception of the egg, which had been picked up and poked about a bit by various people, he polished off the whole lunch in about 5 minutes flat!

I really enjoyed the interview, and am very grateful to the lovely people at BBC Radio Solent for inviting me in for it!
