Last week was Walk to School Week here in the UK, which Small Child loves, because he gets to collect a sticker for each day that he walks that week. In actual fact he walks to school every day, come rain or shine, because we only live a mile away from his school and I am a non-driver, so he was very happy to receive all 5 stickers, even though he hadn't done anything out of the ordinary to earn them! I was all out of inspiration for his lunch on Friday so asked him for ideas, and he asked if I could make a Walk to School Week lunch to celebrate. He was full of suggestions for how I should make this one, and helped by drawing the faces on the little pitta bread people who were walking to school.
In this lunch Small Child had a wholemeal pitta bread, cut into little people using a mini gingerbread man cutter, and decorated with edible marker pens. On the side he had a hard boiled egg, shaped into a car using an egg mould, then crossed through with a red edible marker pen (Small Child loved this!), cucumber and carrot flowers, decorated with leaf picks, red grapes, decorated with alphabet picks spelling out the word 'WALK', and some organic strawberry yoghurt. I finished the lunch with a few white chocolate jazzies as a special treat and added some grass shaped silicone dividers to decorate.
Small Child really enjoyed this lunch, especially the pitta bread men and his chocolate treat!
