The lovely people at Sistema Plastics recently sent me a couple of different lunchboxes to try, the first of which I’m reviewing today. They also sent me an extra one of each, so look out for a giveaway at the end of this post, and more to come in the near future!
Today’s lunchbox review is of the Sistema Triple Split box. I was really excited about trying this box, as it looked ideal for my lunches. It has a large main compartment and two smaller compartments, with a clip-on lid. It also comes with a removable round container that fits perfectly in one of the smaller compartments, designed to hold foods such as yoghurt, and it comes in a range of bright colours. When it arrived though, I must admit I was slightly taken aback by the size of it – I hadn’t appreciated just how big a 2L lunchbox is!
Setting aside the size for a minute, this lunchbox is really well designed and made to the high standard that I have always experienced with Sistema products. The lid is moulded so that it fits neatly over the three compartments, sealing each one in. I like the fact that it is an all-in-one lunchbox too – no separate pieces to lose and it’s really easy to wash. The clips on the lid hold it firmly shut whilst still being very easy to open, even for little hands. Here’s a close up of the moulded lid – the raised sections fit neatly inside each compartment, sealing them in.
Small Child was suitably impressed by this box and loved the colour of it, but I must admit that I haven’t yet used this one for his lunches – it just seems too big for the amount of food I pack for a six year old. I could use it like a standard lunch box – wrapping sandwiches in clingfilm etc but as you know I prefer to pack my lunches bento style, using as little excess packaging as possible.
Having said that, I have used it several times for Mr Amazing’s lunches, and it has been perfect for him! I can pack a couple of rounds of sandwiches plus some fruit and other snacks in the two side compartments, and that makes a nice, quick and easy meal for him to eat on the go.
Below is a lunch that I packed for him in the Triple Split recently – it had sandwiches on seeded bread, filled with tuna mayonnaise with sweetcorn, lettuce and cucumber. On the side I added an apple (it was a very large apple, but the compartment easily had space for it to go in whole) and some dried mixed vine fruits with cashew nuts. I never pack nuts for Small Child, as his school has a nut-free policy, but obviously Mr Amazing doesn’t have to stick to those rules.
Here’s the same lunch from a different angle. As you can see, there is plenty of room for two lots of sandwiches to be piled on top of one another.
In short, I’d say that this lunchbox is perfect for adults or older children with larger appetites, as it has room for plenty of food. It is well designed, sturdy and made to a high standard, and as I mentioned before comes with a ‘bonus’ container for yoghurt etc too, which is really useful. The lid clips on very securely, but is easy to put on and take off. Overall I am very impressed with the quality of this lunchbox. I have to be honest and say I wouldn’t really recommend it for a young child, purely because of the size, but I would have no hesitation recommending it for an adult. I would love to see a smaller version of this lunchbox, as it would then be perfect for younger children.
