After Small Child was so sad yesterday that he didn’t get pizza for lunch, I remembered that I had a bag of ‘pizza whirl bread rolls’ stashed away in the freezer. I made them a few weeks ago during a mammoth baking session in preparation for lunch boxes, and was pleased to have them to hand for today’s lunch, especially since I’ve run out of bread! I got a few out of the freezer and left them out to defrost overnight, so they were ready to go this morning. I’ll try to remember to take photos for a tutorial next time I make them, as they are easy to make, handy to have in the freezer, and absolutely delicious (I had one for my lunch too).
In his lunch box today Small Child had the following: Pizza whirl bread roll split with hummous in the middle (the pizza filling was ham, cheese & tomato), crinkle cut purple carrots with a bunny pick, cubed cheese with a bear pick, some shredded lettuce (worth a try!), and an organic savoury veg & oat bar (Organix Goodies, Tomato & Carrot Flavour).
I made a flowery fruit salad for ‘pudding’. It wasn’t quite as colourful as I’d originally planned, but I was using up what fruit I had left (the cupboards are looking a little bare today, time for a big shop tomorrow!). There were melon and apple flowers, kiwi fruit trees and some halved green grapes.
We took our lunchboxes for a picnic in the park on the way home from school, as Small Child was on another half day today. Yesterday I packed lunch for the children but not myself, and was suffering from serious lunch envy whilst they ate them. Today I was determined not to make the same mistake twice, so I brought an extra one for myself, yum!
