Today we were meeting up with some friends for a play date, so I optimistically packed leftovers from last night’s mixed vegetable pasta dinner in the hope that the sun might come out long enough to have a picnic somewhere. Mine was just chucked into a box with a fork, but I was in a creative mood, so took a little more care over Small Child’s portion. I used one of the brightly coloured two compartment boxes to make this lunch, and packed it in so once again everything stayed in place.
As well as the mixed vegetable pasta, I made cheddar cheese and carrot bear coins (tutorial to follow). I got the idea for these from a post I saw on the Just Bento website, but I used the carrots raw rather than cooking them, as it was quicker and easier and Small Child is happy to eat them raw. I also gave him some shredded roast chicken in a silicone cup with a bear pick. I scattered the left over bear ‘middles’ from the carrot coins onto the pasta. I also filled a tub with washed green grapes which we shared for dessert (not shown).
Luckily for us the rain stopped and the sun came out, so we were able to enjoy our picnic at the play park in the sunshine. Long may the good weather last!
