Today is the last of my World Book Day posts, for this year anyway! I hope you have enjoyed my book themed lunches and have had a chance to check out some of the awesome posts that have been linked up over the week! It would normally be Fun Food Friday here on the Eats Amazing Blog, but I’m replacing it with one last themed linky, the theme of which is water and/or sealife. Today’s lunch is based on ‘Tiddler‘, a brilliant book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, the writer/illustrator team behind The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child, Room on the Broom etc. This book is a lot of fun to read aloud, with the great repeating chorus of “Tiddler, Tiddler, Tiddler’s Late!” I had a lot of fun making this lunch, and was pleased with how my last minute idea for an edible net came out!
In this lunch Small Child had some homemade tortilla crisps, in various fish shapes, with eyes dotted on with edible marker pen. I moulded a hard boiled egg into a fish using one of our egg moulds, and popped it in a silicone cup, after highlighting the fish features with edible marker pens too. I cut fish shapes from raw carrot and raw red pepper, and popped them in the main part of the lunch box along with a blue sauce container full of organic houmous. I cut a boat shaped from an apple using a mini bento cutter (dipping the cut parts of the apple in lemon juice to keep them from browning) and made a clock from a Babybel cheese, by cutting a circle from the wax using a mini bento cutter, then adding back strips of wax for clock hands, and dots of edible marker pen. I finished the lunch off with an edible net made from a baked tortilla wrap (see below for more details).

Here’s how I made the tortilla net; I cut the net design from a tortilla wrap, then brushed it with a little olive oil, and draped it over an upturned silicone cup to shape it. I cooked it for a minute or two too long, but was assured by Small Child that it tasted great!
I used the rest of the tortilla wrap to cut out as many fish shapes as I could – I varied the sizes and shapes to make them a little more fun (do excuse the rather blurry picture!). Tortilla crisps are a great way to use up left over tortilla wraps, they are really tasty and you can cut them into all sorts of fun shapes using cookie cutters if you wish!
