Dreaming of the Beach Lunch & Fun Food Friday #27

Good morning, and welcome to another Fun Food Friday! Thank you if you joined me last week, there were some great posts linked up!  If you’ve been making any fun food recently, whether it be lovely lunches, creative cakes, or a recipe you’ve blogged, please do join in the link up below and share the inspiration around!  I do my best to comment on and tweet every post that’s linked up, and I pin them all to my special Fun Food Friday Pinterest board too.

Today’s fun food from me is a lunch that was inspired by the changeable and often rainy weather we’ve been having recently.  It’s not a rainy day lunch though, instead it’s a beach lunch, because that’s what I’ve been dreaming of as I look out of the windows at the falling rain.  We’ve booked a little holiday cottage in North Cornwall for our first holiday as a family of four later on this year, I just hope the English weather is on our side for once! I don’t expect there will be palm trees, but I am definitely hoping for ice-cream – take note Mr Amazing!

In this lunch Small Child had ham sandwiches on seeded bread, which I cut into ice-cream shapes using plunger cutters from this beach themed set.  I highlighted the sprinkles with a red edible marker pen, and added polka dot picks to give them each a cherry on top.  On the side he had sugar snap peas and raw carrot sticks, decorated with boat picks, chunks of melon, shaped into palm trees with another cutter from the beach themed set, red grapes, a Babybel cheese with a  little sunshine shape cut from the wax to decorate, a couple of sesame snaps, because I thought they looked a little like sand, and some organic orange, carrot and mango flavoured yoghurt.  I finished the lunch off with a little portion of onion and garlic dip for Small Child to dip the veggies in, and added a mini bento spoon to his lunch bag for the yoghurt.

Small Child said he liked the ice-cream sandwiches, and dipping his vegetables in the dip. He’s very excited about our little holiday too, and keeps asking when we’re going.  It’s a while away yet, but I for one can’t wait! Are you planning any trips away this year?

But… why on Earth would a school have a no nut-policy?

    • Grace says:

Hi Lise, because of allergies – my son’s school has a couple of children with a serious nut allergy, so they ask that nobody brings in nuts in case of accidental contact. It might seem a bit extreme but sometimes peoples allergic reactions can be very serious, even fatal – it seems a small price to pay to avoid causing serious harm.

Cute lunch! Today is our last day of school so I am definitely ready for summer! Thanks for hosting.
