Today is also the Chinese New Year, and we’re entering the year of the horse – a perfect opportunity to make a themed lunch I thought.Â When it came to making it this morning though, I was feeling distinctly lacking in the energy department, after another sleepless night with Small Baby, so it probably wasn’t my best effort!
In this lunch Small Child had ham sandwiches, cut into rectangles and decorated with a horse cut from a slice ofÂ ham (using a cookie cutter, I’m not that good with a knife!) and some flower and leaf picks.Â On the side he had slices of cucumber, topped with purple carrot letters spelling out ‘NEW YEAR’.Â I realise it looks more like ‘NEW EAR’ in the photo, but there is a Y in there somewhere, honest! He also had an apple, sliced (and dipped in orange juice to prevent browning), some grape ‘kebabs’ on mini heart skewers and a tub of natural yoghurt, swirled with a little honey and topped with star sprinkles. I finished the lunch off by adding the wordÂ ‘HORSE’ with alphabet picks.
